Strollling Through The (Theme) Park One Day - Disneyland, Day Three!

This was my last day of the Disneyland Resort So Cal Three Day Pass. The first thing was to get something to eat, I was starving, a little woozy. So I tried for the first time, Carnation Cafe, made a reservation. It is popular. What caught my eye was the Walt’s Chili-Cheese Omelet. I had Walt’s Chili at the Walt Disney Studio. It is the best chili! Hearty and very tasty! It was $18 as are most of the dishes so expect a little pricey. I headed to Galaxy Edge, but also stopped to take pics of the Halloween Tree. This is the tree outside of the Silver Spur Supplies building in Frontierland. It was dedicated in 2007 to Ray Bradbury and his 1972 novel. It was made into an animated movie in 1993. Don’t miss it!

Tales of the Lion King, Fantasyland Theater, photo by the author.

I had a reservation for Rise of the Resistance. Always fun. I had the fleet transport that was second so it was interesting to see the perspective behind the droid driver and across the other vehicle. I also noticed that Nien Nunb didn’t have the moustache from ep. 7 of Ahsoka. I suspect that was Nien Nunb, but it may have been another Sullustan. I got a pic of the Finn animatronic, but may have missed him since he was below the AT-ATs. Afterwards, I went to see the Tales of the Lion King at the Fantasyland Theater. This is a very popular show and crowds gathered to watch the performance. I would recommend showing up early to find a good seat. This is a great theatrical performance for a theme park.  Of course, it is a retelling of the Lion King, similar to the musical production, but also fantastic with dances, costumes, and singing. It is 24 minutes long. Recommended!

Finn below the AT-AT Walkers at Rise of the Resistance, author’s photo.

I did run into Boba Fett, whom I think I’ve seen before, there was also The Mandalorian. He was surrounded by a crowd so I passed up seeing him twice. Chewbacca was also around Galaxy’s Edge. I didn’t see any new characters, but my friend saw Hera at 6:30 p.m. Next, I went to the Monorail station. Really great looks at the old People Mover track and beauty shots of the Submarine Voyage waterfall and the sub emerging from it! Take not of the Historic Mechanical Enginering Landmark plaque for the Monorail at the station. It was dedicated on June 14, 2004 by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. Disney went to Alweg, a German company, and it was a single back and forth system. Disney wanted to bend the track and was told this was impossible, but Bob Gurr solved the problem, a visionary genius!

Plaque for the Monorail, author’s photo.

Then, it was back to Tiana’s Palace for lunch, this time I tried the Muffuletta Sandwich. This is described as “Mortadella, Salami, Rosemary Ham, Cheddar, Provolone and House-made Olive Relish on Toasted New Orleans Sesame Seed Bread, served with Red Beans & Rice”, $14.99. It has such flavors, spicy!, delicious especially for theme park food. Highly recommended! Plus, I remembered to get the cornbread. Next time, the House Gumbo. I had a relaxing ride on the Davey Crockett Explorer Canoes. The attraction is now located in Critter Country.

It is fun to paddle around the Rivers of America. The canoes are 35’ long and carry 20 passengers so it is a group effort. Note that you will get splashed with a few drops of river water, but this is par for the course. The guide doesn’t sing the Fess Parker’s “Ballad of Davey Crockett” so you will have to sing it yourself! I finished off the day with a drive on Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride, it is a hoot to drive into Mr. Toad’s Inferno! Towards the end of the day, it became packed, elbow to elbow filled with guests so you could hardly walk down a street! Disneyland can have fun experiences with new food, new and classic attractions!

Ahsoka, “Dreams and Madness”, Review!

Ahsoka’s episode 7, “Dreams and Madness”, has a great beginning and Ahsoka fighting to get to Ezra and Sabine! Re:cap - “Far, Far Away”; Ahsoka is traveling with Huyang via the Purrgil. On Peridea, Sabine encounters the Great Mothers and taken to a cell. The Star Destroyer Chimaera appears and the legions of Night Troopers are led by Captain Enoch. Then, she faces an old enemy, Grand Admiral Thrawn, and he honors the agreemnt made by Baylan. Sabine is given her weapons and sent on a Howler to find Ezra. Thrawn sends Baylan and Shin to end the reunion. She defeats bandits in red armor and then finds the small, turtle-like Noti. They take her to their village; metal, pod-like huts.

There we finally have the reunion of Ezra Bridger! At the fortress, Grand Admiral Thrawn meets with the Great Mothers. He is told by them that a Jedi is arriving riding the “travelers.” Thrawn suspects it is Ahsoka Tano which Morgan says is impossible. He asks Morgan for everything known about Ahsoka. Then, he orders any star whale to be destroyed. Thrawn asks the Great Mothers for their “dark magic”! This episode has a strange title since the story is set in the world of Peridea. There was a Studio Ghibli documentary entitled Kingdom of Dreams and Madness (2014). Part seven is directed by Geeta Vasant Patel. She directed “The Lord of the Tides” (2022) episode of House of the Dragon. Dave Filoni is the writer.

Haunting music opens to a Sentate chamber on Coruscant. Hera stands before them; headed by Chancellor Mothma, on her left is Admiral Ackbar and Senator Xiono who is leading the court martial for some reason, and on her right is Senator Mawood (who was present at her fleet request), and Nien Nunb, now with whiskers and red general pips! Xiono says General Syndulla ignored a direct order and she corrects him saying that she ignored him. Admiral Ackbar turns to look at him with a “You burnt” look! Chancellor Mothma says Hera’s action showed that there was an “incident” on Seatos. Captain Teva walks up as Xiono says the report is like a fairy tale. So there are fairies in the Star Wars universe? He doesn’t agree with Hera using the term, Imperial Remnant.

This makes Captain Teva stand up and bring up the Mandalore battle. Xiono calls Gideon a warlord and not a moff? Senator Xiono is very aggrssive in condeming General Syndulla. Xiono influenced by Thrawn’s plan or operatives? “Thou dost protest too much.” Chancellor Mothma is silent. He demands a court martial. They are interrupted by the voice of a familiar protocol droid! Chancellor Mothma allows in See-Threepio (Anthony Daniels). Threepio announces he is there for Senator Leia Organa. He presents a data transcript that confirms that Leia had authorized the mission to Seatos. It is great that we have Daniels back, but the absence of Leia at the mission authorization doesn’t make sense, she would have approved it in the first place. Also, he says Leia did not know of Xiono’s vote against it.

Xiono is angry at evidence from a “mere droid” which upsets Chopper in the audience. Threepio reminds him that Leia is leader of the Defense Council. What committee is Xiono on that has so much influence and why is there no other support from senators? The actor who is physically portraying Threepio is not the same as Daniels, his head is held back when Threepio usually talks straight to speakers. Chancellor Mothma finishes the trial asking if Senator Xiono wants to continue. She speaks with Hera in an aside and asks about Thrawn. Hera says, “We have to prepare for the worst and hope for the best.” We hear the sinister note of a flute and drums. The Purrgil are moving through hyperspace. Ahsoka is practicing her forms with her lightsabers. The hologram of Anakin Skywalker, in his black chest armor, mentions the Clone Wars with the threat of General Grievous, Asaaj Ventress, and Count Dooku.

Huyang walks in. He tells her to trust herself and says, “I know you can do this Ahsoka.” She bows to him and he does so in return. Ahsoka says that Anakin made twenty recordings for her and this was the last one. A nice touch to how much Anakin trusted Ahsoka before he left her. Huyang says that the purrgils are nearing their destination. Ahsoka puts the holo recording in a case in her weapons locker. At the cockpit, Ahsoka states that their objective is to find Sabine. Huyang says that is “direct and to the point.” Ahsoka says it’s her style! He is uncertain if the star whales have taken to the system or planet as Sabine. Huyang says the odds are finding her are too high, Ahsoka chides him for mentioning it, they have a great rapport. When did Ahsoka find Huyang and how long have they had this working relationship? I think this will be in supplemental material. I’m for hoping a novel by E.K. Johnston!

The Purrgils leave hyperspace, Huyang begins to scan, but is blocked. They are starting to be rocked and leave the Ultra Purrgil in a series of explosions! Huyang identifies the Imperial minefield. We haven’t seen space mines in Star Wars and in sci fi except in Galaxy Quest (1999). It batters the shuttle, but Ahsoka flies past the minefield. Nine fighters move in to engage the shuttle! Ahsoka dives the shuttle into the “debris field” of the Purrgil bones that ring Peridea. It is a chase like the asteroid battle over Geonosis in Attack of the Clones (2002). The dust and bone fragments are difficult to fly through and takes out one of the fighters. At the fortress, cargo is being loaded onto thd Chimaera. Captain Enoch, in hologram form, reports to Thrawn about the minefield by the star whales and a T-6 Jedi shuttle.

Morgan presents Thrawn a datapad about information on Ahsoka. No reaction, but I sense a disturbance at the mention of General Anakin Skywalker. Thrawn gives the order to withdraw the fighters. Morgan wonders why let Ahsoka go and Thrawn says she may be unpredictable like her master. Similar to Thrawn in Star Wars: Rebels, he is a master strategist, but repeatedly lets his opponents go free, again and again. In Heir to the Empire, our heroes would barely escape and suffer defeat after defeat. I think Filoni needs the tactical mind of Timothy Zahn. Huyang reports that the fighters are pulling back from the dangers of flying in the debris field. Ahsoka lands on a large, Purrgil bone structure. Huyang wonders how they were found and Ahsoka knows that it was Thrawn. Huyang tries to scan for Sabine.

On Peridea, the Noti pods hover across the fields like pill bugs. Ezra is still working on Sabine’s update about the defeat of the Empire in the Battle of Endor. Also, the New Republic, Hera is general, and Zeb is now training recruits. He is the missing part of the Ghost crew. Garazeb may show up in the next season. Sabine says she is the apprentice of Ahsoka. Baylan rides up to a ridge with Shin and the bandits. Thrawn meets with the Great Mothers and wants them to locate Ahsoka in the debris field. The sphere is released setting up the triangle around a map of the field. Morgan begins chanting. Tiny squid-like creatures drift like deep sea animals as Huyang finishes his scan. He can’t find Sabine. Ahsoka reaches out to Sabine through the Force calling her name. On board the Noti pod, Sabine says Ahsoka’s name.

Ahsoka has found Sabine and then we switch to Klotho’s black eyes, disturbing, who has discovered Ahsoka’s location. The red triangle points to the coordinates. Thrawn has Captain Enoch blast the area! Ezra checks on Sabine who says she has a feeling. The shuttle is suddenly rocked by the Eye of Sion’s cannons! Thrawn knows that she is headed to Sabine and orders Enoch to bring in the fighters. The Noti halt the caravan and point to the distant Baylan and Shin. He tells his apprentice to contact Thrawn, kill Ezra and Sabine, and take her place in the new Empire. Baylan is taking a different path than his apprentice. Shin sends the coordinates to Thrawn and says a last lesson to her about impatience. The bandits head towards the Noti followed by Shin. Captain Enoch makes his report and Thrawn sends two gunships. Thrawn says to a Great Mother that Baylan will bring a victory.

The bandits start to close on their Howlers. Strange, Ezra has a strong connection to animals through the Force and could have the Howlers throw off their riders. Sabine fires on them with her blasters. Ezra tells a Noti, “Yuka Yuka”, and the feller takes out a slingshot! I’m not certain exactly how Ezra and the Noti survived so long against the Night Troopers, the bandits, and the Howlers. A bandits uses an electrostaff to bring a pod down! Ezra has the Noti circle their pods in a sealed, defensive ring. Flying the shuttle, Ahsoka sees the ring of pods, as she weaves through the blasterfire. Shin strolls her Howler towards the pods. The bandit leader next to her orders his men on foot. Ahsoka tells Huyang that she is going to get to the ground as he flies the shuttle. As she readies to leave she tells Huyang he got the timing wrong last time! Ahsoka has Huyang drop the steps of the landing ramp to slide off as he pulls the shuttle away!

She sees Baylan who dismounts his Howler. Baylan is not surprised and ignites his lightsaber. Ahsoka has her arms spread as she activates her lightsabers. Surrounded by the bandits, Sabine offers Ezra the lightsaber, but he refuses to take it. He says he only needs the Force. Ezra Force pushes a bandit while Sabine uses her blasters! Ezra fights in a martial arts style, I wonder if this is Teräs Käsi, this was made into a video game, Star Wars: Masters of Teräs Käsi (1997). It was known by Qi’ra from the 2018 Solo movie. Baylan duels with Ahsoka, but finds she is not so easily defeated as their first encounter. Shin, behind Ezra’s back, tries to slice him, but only gets the tips of his hair! Fairly cowardly attacking an unarmed opponent from behind. Sabine fights a bandits and then uses her lightsaber! Shin keeps swinging, dodged by Ezra, then Sabine knocks aside her blade with her lightsaber. Then, Shin turns to see the gunships. Ahsoka part seven begins with an interesting beginning with the cameos, the second part has action, but without the surprises of the previous episodes!

Jawan Review!

Jawan is an epic action movie with a team headed by Shah Rukh Khan’s character to help the people! The title of the film translates to “soldier.” Atlee is the director and co-writer of Jawan and he also directed and co-wrote the sports Tamil drama, Bigil (2019) translated as Whistle. Atlee appears in the movie during one of the songs. The co-writer is S. Ramagirivasan who also worked on Bigil. The other writer is Shanoor Mirza. The film stars Khan who also starred in this year’s action movie, Pathaan. It topped Pathaan’s opening weekend box office for a Hindi film. The challenge of the movie for me is its run time at two hours and 45 minutes. It seriously needs the interlude which was missing from the US showing. If you are able to get through the run time, then the movie offers some action and dramatic rewards!

On India’s border, it seems like Tibet, we see a waterfall, and this moves to a person floating in a river. Some farmers find the wounded man and he is taken to a village on a black horse. A village elder wraps him in bandages almost like a figure of horror. It shifts to “Few Months Later”, there is a festival when the village is attacked. It is violent with a child shot and a horse on fire. This is a caution to anyone who will find the content difficult to watch, but it is intended for dramatic effect. A soldier points a gun at a child and his mother. An elderly man pleads at the foot of a statue for help. A spear slaps away the gun. Then, a shadow falls on the soldiers to the statue. On a cliff above the village, highlighted by storm clouds, is the figure of the bandaged man with a spear!

He leaps with the spear to attack the soldiers! The bandaged man is pure vengeance, he rips through the soldiers, but is struck by a torch. This sets his head on fire and burns away the bandages to reveal his face (Khan)! The unknown man defeats all of the soldiers and the villages bow to him. He asks, “Who am I?” and the boy says he will discover his identity. This moves to “30 Years Later” in Mumbai. A pregnant woman boards a train. Then, we get several female members of a team; Kalki the Daring (Lehar Khan), Janvi the Composer (Aaliyah Qureishi), and Helena (Sanjeeta Bhattacharya), a master hacker. A car accident is set up by Helena’s computer that stops the train. There are other members introduced, Lakshmi (Priyamani) and Eeram the Doctor (Sanya Malhotra).

The most important of these characters is Eeram, Kalki, and Helena. A clever and trained group of women operatives is awesome, but only a few of them are given background. Their leader, bandaged head, takes out a duffel bag. He is a mastermind who is ten steps ahead of the authorities. In a way, he reminds me of V in V for Vendetta (2005), distinctive in his bandages. The group takes out guns to take the train hostage. At the National Security Guard (NSG) office, the captain, Narmada Rai (Nayanthara) is informed about the situation. Nayanthara appeared in the thriller Connect (2022). A police officer faces the leader and catches his bandage, the leader spins, pulling off the bandages to reveal Khan’s character now bald. The train’s security camera is activated and the leader shoots a woman in robes!

Wonder Woman #1 Review!

Wonder Woman #1's debut is building on the new Wonder Woman, Trinity, and changes the status quo of the Amazons and Wonder Woman! The promise of the new Wonder Woman title was previewed in the “Trinity” story in Wonder Woman #800. Wonder Woman #1 brings a new direction for the heroine. The first part of this storyline, the title might be a spoiler, is by Tom King and Daniel Sampere. King is the writer of another superheroine in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Sampere is the artist for the digital comic, Wonder Woman: Agent of Peace #11 (2020). This was collected in the first Wonder Woman: Agent of Peace Volume 1: Global Guardian (2021) graphic novel written by Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti. This is part of the Dawn of DC label. The regular cover has Wonder Woman a look of joy on her face holding the lasso over a blank white background and tiles of red stars rimmed in blue. The first issue has sold out at many comic stores so hopefully you may have it on a pull list.

There is a game of pool with the cue ball breaking eight-ball rack in a series of panels. The narration speaks about how she defeated the narrator, Sovereign, Lord of the Rockies. It is a disconnection from the ordinary with something abstract. One of the players is angry that the other touched her while she was taking a shot. The pool balls scatter and then we see a shadow loom over the pool table. The following page is a splash page of a woman, blonde hair, black jacket, metal collar and bracelets, and a Wonder Woman  outfit. She is smashing a man’s face into the pool table. The pool balls fly up and one of them has the reflection of a stunned, bearded man. The narrator mentions that it began at the pool hall. The woman’s black shoe steps on the neck of the man with the bleeding face. The bearded man takes a pool cue to threaten the woman as she snaps the wounded man’s neck.

The pool cue shatters on her face and she grabs the man by the neck. The rest of the pool hall looks on as she holds him up with two other men holding their pool cues ready to attack. We pull back to the pool hall window where the woman kicks one of the men. There is a blood splatter as we pull back further. The narrator mentions that they tried and is mentioning this to a young lady who may be Trinity. This moves to the pool hall exterior where we see a man thrown out of a window of the Kanigher Cues Pro Billards. Robert Kanigher was the writer of the Wonder Woman comic book after creator, William Moulton Marston. The next series of panels has reporters discussing the incident in West Billings, Montana. Nineteen men were killed and two women, Marie Carey and Nora Sheridan, were left as witnesses.

Seven days have passed as there is a video of the murders of the woman. The Amazon Embassy has identified the woman as an Amazon who was working with the indigenous people, possibly Sioux, Cherokee, and Iroquois, but don’t know her location. The storytelling of a superhero with real life events in an ordinary setting seems like Tom King’s Heroes in Crisis (2018-2019) limited series with art by Clay Mann. Wonder Woman was a supporting character in the story. It had a superhero rehab end with mass murder, but this was retconned out of continuity. The events here may have the same result if DC wants to change the storyline, but it is kept to the Wonder Woman title and not most of the DC superheroes.

It seems out of place with an Amazon would act violently with people who are far underpowered in comparison. Then, there is the Washington, D.C. reaction with the president meeting with Taylor, the majority leader. At a restaurant, a man in a suit with a military cut hairstyle and grey hair at the sides, meets with two men. He says he knows what they have done, leading to some deaths of undercover agents, and he has gotten a text to deal with the “big lady” situation. He reaches out with his steel hand and shoots them in pretend finger gun closeup, but his index finger actually blasts bullets! The narrator has hired this man and is familiar with his history.

The man tidies his suit leaving the dead bodies and walks calmly through the restaurant as patrons take cover under tables. The narrator knows he worked at various times for and against superheroes and is a counterpart to Amanda Waller. The man walks up to a restaurant worker hiding behind a counter and he puts down his card for the police, Sgt. Steel. This is a spy/detective character introduced in Charlton Comics’ Sarge Steel #1 (1964) and brought into the DC universe in Legends #3 (1987). The narrator states that he was humiliated during the Amazons Attack! storyline, a limited series in 2007. Then, we have a splash page of two people walking in the rainy night towards the capitol. One them is Steven, as in Steve Trevor?

We get a man interviewed by a news crew with his daughter at his side. This is split with her energetic love of Wonder Woman with the daughter in the panel framed by a star. The other has the angry father who says the Amazons have their island and his fear of them. More real world politics enters the scene with Congress passing the Amazon Safety Act according to the narrator. The Amazons are banned from the United States and the embassy is closed. I’m not certain if this conflicts with international law. Like Heroes in Crisis, real life situations go out of control, there are no checks by the UN or consultations with the Justice League. We see a knocks at a door by Sgt. Steel. A woman, Cybele, opens the door.

The narrator notes that the Amazons who refuse to leave are taken by the Amazon Extradition Entity (A.X.E.). Armed soldiers pile behind Steel as he asks Cybele and her wife to leave peacefully.

The narrator notes that she, Wonder Woman, and her “heroic friends” tried to stop the forced extradition, a reflection of the real world immigration problems in a superhero mirror. We see a soldier checking out the back of the house as we hear that Cybele has a daughter whom she is dealing with a lawyer. The soldier points his rifle at the daughter innocently playing with blocks!

Behind him, a blond Amazon with her hair in a pony tail, Nyx, raises a shield! We see the soldiers hand with blood from the falling shield. She screams, “For Paradise!” and charges the soldiers with her sword and shield. A shield?, she should have it ready to deflect gunfire. Cybele calls out her wife’s name. Steel says, “Ain’t that a shame”, just cold. The soldiers quickly authorize themselves to open fire. We see in a chiaroscuro, Nyx, shot in automatic fire with the sound effect behind her. Her bloody body is on the pavement and we see Cybele’s horrified expression. A political talk show host, Jerry, is interviewing the senator, smiling in his sweater, from Montana. More series of panels inter cut with violent scenes.

We see an Amazon taken into custody by A.X.E. soldiers. The senator notes the attack and Amazons are from a monarchy. We see a dead Amazon in the grass. Jerry asks the senator about Wonder Woman’s part in the chaos. Queen Nubia, she became the new queen of Themysicra in Trial of the Amazons #2 (2022). She has an impassive face on her throne and sems to take the death of Amazons with a regal distain. The Amazon ambassador reports that she spoke with the princess, Diana, about Queen Nubia’s decree of returning to Themysicra. The princess returned her sword and the ambassador repeats her words, “In what I now do, I must avoid temptation.” In a snowy cemetary, Steel meets with the person he calls, “girl.”  He says he respects her for coming to the graves of fallen Amazons as we see the A.X.E. soldiers with their rifles.

The narrator notes that three hundred Amazons were captured or killed. Steel is still cocky dealing with one of the greatest Amazons and hero. A sniper in a tree takes sight of the dark haired woman, Diana. She counters that he is trying to belittle her calling her girl. Steel gives a warning and then we see the sniper reach for his rifle’s trigger. He says she is in violation of the Amazon Safety Act and the sniper fires in a closeup of the rifle’s muzzle! Then, we finally get a splash page of Wonder Woman deflecting the sniper shot in the snow with pigeons scattering John Woo-style! Steel is at one side and Wonder Woman is surrounded by A.X.E. agents, they need back-up. Wonder Woman takes out her Lasso of Truth, closeup of Steel telling the soldiers to “get her home”, euphanism. Wonder Woman leaps over all for them in an awesome panel.

She has tied up two soldiers with the lasso and slams them together as the narrator notes Wonder Woman in comparison to the rest of the Justice League. Wonder Woman takes down the soldiers in impressive action scenes. This is contrasted with the impotent Steel and the narrator, but we finally are revealed the narrator! Wonder Woman hasn't found the rogue Amazon, Emelie, whom may have been under some sort of control by the Sovereign or her long time foe, Doctor Psycho who may be the Sovereign. He is also tied to the build up of Trinity. "Wonder Woman: Outlaw Part 1" has potential with a new direction. It is in line with King’s Heroes in Crisis in disrupting the superhero status quo. The comic has great art by Sampere. Wonder Woman #1 adds real world situations, which is interesting in part, but veers from the fantasy of superhero comics!

Sanjulián’s Queens of the Lost World #2 Review!

The quest has begun with the Huntress sent by the Dragon Queen. The story continues by Leah Moore and John Reppion. Artwork is by Silvia Califano. Sanjulián’s cover has the beautiful Dragon Queen in front of a snarling dragon with another dragon flying above them. The beginning has closeups of bloody hands in a ceremony to the Mistress of the Night! Entrails are dropped into a bowl while the hands reach up sending out swirling mist of skulls. The Dragon Queen from her cobra throne asks what is seen by the oracle. In purple robes and gold finery, the oracle replies that she only sees death.

This shifts to the desert city of Kemet, Capital of the Aegyptian Lands. Kemet was the ancient name for Egypt. We were told about the armies of the Aegyptian queen in the first issue. I love the Egypt-like setting, which might be comparable to Stygia in Conan's Cimmeria, great world building! The shadowy figure walks towards the city gates flanked by gigantic statues of men with headdresses and staves. She wanders the markets as we find out about the ruler of these lands, the Widow Queen Nitocris. The queen had her husband’s assassins found and held their hearts when they died! There was an Egyptian first regent queen called Nitocris by the Greeks.

The red-cloaked Busca the Huntress walks through the alleys. We finally see somber face half-covered in shadows. She looks up looking at a worm’s eye view of the palace. At Terra Drac, there are sleeping tiny dragons, the Dragon Queen asks Grand Vizier Senex about any records. We see outside of Terra Drac, tiny dragons at play, as Senex replies that there is nothing in the scrolls to help them. The queen mentions the death of her sister to the Black Fever which Senex adds that the “true power” may have been lost with her. The Dragon Queen reaches for her temple in pain as there is a tremor that disturbs the young dragons! The mountainous side of Terra Drac begins to shatter seen by some citizens. The queen says that the mother is in danger.

This picks up with the bathing pool of Queen Nitocris, she is undressed by servants and then enters the pool, her elderly advisor tries to reassure her. This is seen in three panels as the queen moves across the chamber to relax in the pool. Excellent artwork. Overhearing the conversation is Furia listening through an open window. The advisor suggests a message sent to the Dragon Queen to warn her. Queen Nitocris thinks it might start the diaster. We see the shadowy form of the Huntress on a ledge, past the city is a pyramid, listening. Queen Nitrocris has finished bathing and says that they must be cautious.

In the dark Land of Lost Souls, the Castle of the Damned, we see the Demon Queen trailing purplish smoke of evil forms from her mouth! Her bluish body is twisted and jewelry flies from her neck that look like it was strangling the queen. She calls the Nethermost and says she will act as their vessel! The Nethermost, a mass of insectoid and cyclopean forms, crawl towards her. The queen is lifted up in the ceremony to free them! We have Senex trying to caution the Dragon Queen, but she is calming the Magna Mater, the dragon causing the rumbling. Her tail swipes the Dragon Queen down, but she is able to calm the dragon.

Another ceremony in Kemet is being perfomed by a priestess and the advisor, a sacrifice of a goat, in front of a sphinx; lion-headed with a feathery mane, claws, and bat-like wings! An incredible vision of a sphinx with the closest version of the beast seen in Gods of Egypt (2016). While it feeds, Busca starts moving towards a wall that has the impression of a stone figure of a dragon. This surprises the Huntress which gets the attention of the sphinx! The advisor interrupts Queen Nicrotis with her two lovers to say that “it has begun!”

He explains that the offering was made at the dragon chamber with the sphinx tearing apart guards! The advisor is overcome with futher news that the dragonstone is missing. Terra Drac and Aegypt are doomed! We see the stone, a sleeping dragon, in the palms of golden gauntlets! Queen Nicrotis orders the city to be closed and guards to search to search for the dragonstone. The Eyrie of Terra Drac, the guards try to hold back the panicked citizens, Senex goes out to try to reassure them.

The Dragon Queen takes the distraction to enter his library. In the skies, the dragons are scattering like a disturbed flock of birds, one man thinks it is an omen, but Senex continues to say there are explanations. A book is read by the Dragon Queen and we see her surprised eyes. There are secrets kept by Senex. At a Bedouin Camp outside of Kemet, Busca thanks a woman for caring for her horse, and then asks if she has seen someone else. She drops a handful of coins for the horse caretaker.

The Bedouin woman says that there was a woman who asked her for horse feed five nights ago. We see Furia the Warrior with her skull helmet is hunched over her horse. The horse caretaker continues that the rider went into a sandstorm. Busca drops more coins and the woman points out the direction and the Huntress says she knows the person she is tracking. Some of the pages jump in the narrative, but the visuals and world building is some of the best sword and sorcery! Queens of the Lost World #2 continues the quest to save the dragons and Kemet, fight the threat of the Demon Queen, and an eventual meeting of the Hutnress and the Warrior!

Ahsoka, “Far, Far Away“, Review!

Ahsoka, episode six, shifts to Sabine and her mission that takes her to danger and unexpected reunions! Re:cap, “Shadow Warrior” - Ahsoka had lost the lightsaber duel with Baylan and appears in the World Between Worlds to see Anakin Skywalker! He takes her a dream quest through her past to ultimately have her fight to live. She is rescued from the Seatos sea and uses the Force to envision the moments after her duel. Hera is contacted by Mon Mothma who has sent New Republic ships to escort her back for trial. A Senate Committee is going to determine if she will lose her position as general. Ahsoka has found a way to Sabine. The ships leave with Hera, Jacen, and Chopper in the Ghost, Ahsoka in her shuttle with Huyang, and Captain Carson with his X-Wings. The shuttle and the Ghost fly in the midst of a Purrgil pod. Huyang heads towards “one of the larger ones”, a Purrgil Ultra.

Ahsoka leaves the cockpit and walks to the bow of the shuttle. The Purrgil Ultra looms in front of her. Carson contacts Hera about the arrival of the three New Republic cruisers. She sends Carson to delay them as long as possible. He meets the ships with his X-Wings and asks the ships to identify themselves! The lead officer of the fleet, Captain Girard (Eisa Davis), asks about General Syndulla. Carson continues to try to delay her insisting that the general complete her mission. Girard orders a tractor beam. She insists that Carson tell her about the mission or she will strip him of command. Carson reluctantly agrees to Captain Girard. Jacen watches the Purrgil and says that this is like the stories Hera told him about the whales taking Ezra “far, far away.” The strange part is why this was never attempted before or even tracking the movements of the Purrgil.

Reaching out with the Force, Ahsoka closes her eyes to communicate with the Purrgil Ultra. It opens its cavernous mouth lined with baleen-like teeth. Ahsoka taps on the cockpit window to direct Huyang to fly the shuttle into the Purrgil’s mouth. He does so, a mirror of the Falcon inside the Space Slug, but on purpose. The pod heads towards space, these whales are more interesting than the Tulkun in Avatar 2. Carson finishes his debrief and Hera warns Girard of moving the fleet. The two X-Wing pilots, Jensu and Lander, are stunned as the Purrgils pass them. The Purrgil tentacles start to glow, not pulse like in Rebels, blue. Ahsoka tells Hera that she will find them like Lando’s promise to Leia in ESB. Hera says to Ahsoka, “May the Force Be With You.” Actually, the Ghost and X-Wing fighters could all fit in the Purrgil Ultra, but they may have to stay behind to ready for Thrawn. A bright light fills the cockpit of Ahsoka’s shuttle and they jump!

Part Six is directed by Jennifer Getzinger, this is her first work for Star Wars, and has directed episodes of Westworld. The writer is of course Dave Filoni. There is the moaning of the Purrgil and then an explosion of light and rainbow colors as they speed through hyperspace, I think at Ludricrous Speed. Within the Purrgil Ultra, in the cockpit of her shuttle, Ahsoka brings up what was said of the  Purrgil at the Jedi Temple by Huyang. He recalls telling the Younglings about the History of the Galaxy, Parts 1, 2, and 3! Ahsoka tells Huyang that she saw Sabine go willingly with Baylan through the Force holding the map. She still believes that stopping the war with Thrawn’s return is the most important over Ezra. Huyang, interestingly, says that the Force gives insight, but not answers. He says for Sabine going with Baylan was the only choice! Ahsoka says she made the choice for herself, selfish, like the Dark Side. Huyang says, “That is your fear.”

Ahsoka has Huyang decide to tell a story, he starts, “A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away”!! It was always Lucas intention that Artoo and Threepio were narrators of the Star Wars story, this changes it to another droid, Huyang!? Love it! This makes sense since Huyang keeps the histories, a living embodiment of the Jedi Archives. Sabine has her eyes closed, she has binders on, and then sits up. Baylan sees her inside the prison cell. Sabine reminds me about his deal that she would see Ezra again, but he walks away. Baylan walks to the bridge, Shin eyes him silently, and Morgan asks if he intends to keep his promise to the prisoner. He says she may have some use. The navigator droid reports that they have arrived, there is a swirl of rainbow colors in this hyperspace. The Eye of Sion reverts back to normal space, a blue tunnel extends from the jump, and fades. It continues to a ringed planet which Morgan says is Peridea, the homeworld of the Dathomiri. New information!

Baylan knows of it from the Jedi Archives, Morgan says her people rode the Purrgil before recorded time, and Baylan says it is a graveyard for them. The Eye of Sion passes through the ring of Peridea, the dust and bones of the Purrgil!, the droid has detected a beacon from the planet. Guards followed by Shin Hati take Sabine from her cell. A gold shuttle takes them down to Peridea’s surface. They face a mountainous statue with a howling face and there are others. There is a triangular fortress like Minas Tirith with a tower at its end. The shuttle lands and they walk towards a circle of three red-robed women, a red triangle is formed from floating spheres between them. Pale like Nightsisters. They ae surrounded by more black pillars. The leader (Claudia Black) greets Morgan as a child of Dathomir. Black played Aeryn Sun in the sci fi show, Farscape. She says their vision guided her. One of them says Sabine “reeks of Jedi.” The other two Great Mothers are played by Jeryl Prescott Gallien and Jane Edward Seymour, familiar to fans of Farscape. Their names in the credits refer to The Fates from Greek mythology. They send out the spheres to bind Sabine, they call her “it”, in the triangle.

Sabine says to Baylan that they had a deal as she is pulled away. She is taken to a stone chamber and the spheres return to the witches. Baylan looks around the circle and tells his apprentice that this galaxy is out of stories from the Jedi Temple. He says when he was her age he was at the temple when it burned. Baylan continues that he is now older and sees the cycle of rising and falling repeating. Shin thinks that power will be through Thrawn. Baylan wants to end the cycle! I’m not certain how he would intend to accomplish this, but it is the most ambitious plan in Star Wars! Sabine paces her new cell and then tries to reach out with the Force! Dust stirs, Sabine turns, as does the three witches, and Baylan. There is eerie music on the approach of a Star Destroyer Chimaera! This is the command ship of Grand Admiral Thrawn! The Star Destroyer looks patched, discolored, like modified repair work. It fills the sky above the circle and starts to lower with its hangar bay to the tower.

TIE fighters hang from the bay as Night Troopers, in ramshackle Stormtrooper armor, are assembled. They are given orders by one trooper who turns with a gold face (Wes Chatham), very much like the police androids in THX 1138 (1971)! Chatham played Castor in the Hunger Games films. The Night Troopers chant the name of Thrawn! The sounds of a grand organ, like a majestic villain out of Universal horror movies, is heard as a figure in a white admiral’s uniform walks between the rows of Night Troopers! Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen) strides towars the waiting group. Mikkelsen plays Stregobor in The Witcher, but is well known as the voic of Thrawn in Star Wars: Rebels! They are not ineffectual Stormtroopers like we’ve seen before, Thrawn has forged these Night Troopers into hardened survivors! The exile, the hardened soldiers, and intellectual villain is like Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan (1982). Thrawn with his blue skin and red eyes is a Chiss, a deadly strategist, respectful to his allies and enemies!

He acknowledges the Great Mothers, Morgan Elspeth, and introduces the gold-masked Enoch, the captain of his guard! He will transfer the cargo from the Great Mother’s catacombs. Morgan says it will take three rotations. Then, the Great Mothers say they have a prisoner, Thrawn notes they didn’t say anything about a prisoner. Baylan says he brought her. Morgan introduces Baylan and Shin as mercenaries. Thrawn addresses him as General Baylan Skoll of the Jedi Order. Baylan says he left the Jedi Order. Morgan tells Thrawn that Sabine Wren is the prisoner. He is familiar with her. Thrawn agrees with Baylan that she can be of use. Sabine is brought by Night Troopers to Thrawn. He welcomes someone familiar after his exile. She wants to know where is Ezra. Thrawn says her focus on Ezra will “reshape the galaxy.” In live action, Thrawn’s red eyes are disturbing. He knows of the deal with Baylan Skoll and says he will honor it. Thrawn is formidable because he is honorable.

He has Enoch take off her binders and says she will be given a mount, provisions, and where Ezra could be found. Thrawn says that Sabine will be stranded when his starship leaves. She is unimpressed and says he wouldn’t understand. Sabine is taken to the stables where a strange creature, a Howler, with a rat-like, long snout waits. Enoch speaks to the beast, Tota, so it kneels and then he warns her about the nomads. He gives her blaster and lightsaber and says, “Die well.” She rides away and is seen by Thrawn. Shin calls her foolish. Baylan says he will follow Sabine. Thrawn says if Sabine finds Ezra, then Baylan and Shin will kill them. The Howler takes Sabine into the wilderness of knolls and then stops sniffing the air. Sabine starts to use a scanner and then is blasted from the Howler saddle! Her Howler runs off. The nomads have red, almost-samurai armor, but looks scavenged. Sabine blasts them protected by her Mandalorian armor. A battle in a wasteland, very Mad Max!

Sabine then ignites her lightsabe and quickly takes care of the nomads. Baylan and Shin ride out on Howlers. The Night Troopers begin loading the mysterious cargo to the Star Destroyer. Thrawn and Morgan are looking at the map of a galaxy when Enoch reports of Baylan and Shin’s departure. He dispatches two squads with them. Thrawn tells Morgan that the objective is to escape the exile in this galaxy. He doesn’t care if Ezra and Sabine are stranded and if the “mercenaries” are killed. In the wasteland, the Howler returns to Sabine, she chastizes it. The Howler follows behind her. It seems like a sad puppy and Sabine ends up riding it. The Howler stops, this time to drink from a tiny puddle, and then it begins sniffing at a rock. Sabine really hasn’t used any of her Jedi training. It pops up, a shell for a crab-like, green alien, a Noti. Sabine lays down her blaster and calms down the Howler from snarling at the lil’ Noti. There has always been new, short aliens introduced in Star Wars unlike other SW series and movies. It that starts speakings its language and then points to the Rebel symbol on her pauldron. It shows Sabine a Rebel patch necklace. More Noti pop up around them.

Sabine brings up Ezra’s name. Reminds me of the Trolls in Frozen. They start conversing in a group and Sabine asks them to take her to Ezra. The Noti begin to walk and Sabine brings along the Howler. Baylan is looking at the site of the nomad attack. Shin asks if he knows Ezra. He says no, Ezra was a Bokken Jedi, not formerly trained. Again, bokken is a wooden katana used for training by a samurai. Baylan says he trained Shin to be “something more” than a Jedi. Shin says there is no future in the wasteland. Baylan says he sees the Witch Kingdom of the Dathomiri especially with the Great Mothers. She brings up that they want to leave, but he says they may be leaving a greater power. He senses something. They see nomads who do not attack. Sabine folllows the Noti to a village of shell-like starship pods. I keep hearing the song of the Dink Dinks. Sabine tells the Howler to stay and walks into the village. Sabine looks around the village and then hears, “I knew I could count on you.” It is Ezra Bridger! He has the look with red robe and beard of a movie version of Moses. Esfadi was seen in hologram form in the premiere, "Master and Apprentice." Ahsoka's "Far, Far Away" episode finally has the reunion of Sabine and Ezra, but we still have the threat of Grand Admiral Thrawn, an unknown cargo and the Great Mothers!
