Happy Birthday Richard Ayoade! The completely talented Richard Ayoade had a brilliant role as Dean Learner in Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace (2004) which you can’t miss on youtube. The one role that he is well known for is Maurice Moss in The IT Crowd (2006-2013). “I like to go back to being weird. I like being weird. Weird is all I got… That and my sweet style.” It’s streaming on Netflix so catch every episode. He parodied chat shows with Man to Man with Dean Learner (2006). One of his most interesting projects was writing and directing Submarine (2010). It followed a teenage boy played by Craig Roberts who gets involved with a girl played by Yasmin Paige (who was in the Sarah Jane Adventures) while trying to get his mother (Sally Hawkins who was in The Shape of Water) away from her new boyfriend.
In 2012, he was in the comedy The Watch teaming out with three other comic actors to defend a neighborhood from alien invasion. Ayoade hosted a few shows, Gadget Man (2013-2015) and Travel Man (from 2015 to the present). He also wrote The Double (2014) with Jesse Eisenberg playing a shy clerk who finds his confident double also starring some of the cast of Submarine. In 2014, Ayoade provided the voice for Mr. Pickles in the Laika animated film, The Boxtrolls. Also, he is an author writing Ayoade on Ayoade: A Cinematic Odyssey (2014). Next, he provided voices for the British animated series Danger Mouse (2015-2016). Ayoade was the forensic investigator in Paddington 2 (2017). He began hosting the game show, The Crystal Maze, in 2017 to 2018. He was the voice of Treebor in the Aardman Animations film Early Man (2018). This year, he provided a voice in The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part. Happy Birthday Richard Ayoade!
