Ignited continues and we are getting more of the H1 Ignition universe with Strangelands and Omni titles. Issue three features a cover by Phil Briones with a gun being held to a nervous Anouk in her catmask while the others look on. “Triggered Part 3” is by Mark Waid and Kwanza Osajvefo, writers, with art by Briones. It opens at a darkened gun shop, in slips the paper-like form of Himari Saito, who telekinetically lifts the weapons and folds them. The owner discovers her, but Himari slips away as the owner uses his gun. This flashes back to where we left off last issue with the police confronting the masked teens. Then, their equipment bursts apart, Anouk thinks it’s Shai’s power, her classmate who has control of electronics. In the chaos, they slip away, and hide their masks. On the scene, is an officer who takes charge of the situation, also she happens to be Luther Ray Henschen’s mother! This is a nice twist to have his mother as leader of the police. The armored car begins to dissemble and Luther tells the others he built it. The group is also surprised when Himari appears from a cat symbol on Luther’s jacket.
She flashes back to the day of the tragedy when she saw the lights and folded herself invisible. Luther shows his power to rearrange matter changing the form of a bicycle. He explains that during the time of the gunman school invasion he was in the bandroom. The gunman appeared and he used his powers to protect himself. An interesting artistic way to see the transformation, you can see the original object, and then it is distorted into strange shapes. Shai appears in his electronic form surprising Luther. Anouk flashes back to her story, she saw a bullet strike two of the students, and it slowed down when it hit her. Some kind of kinetic power? They all admit that they told their stories to one person, the counselor, Dr. Zhao. Possibly she is part of the same group that is chasing the Strangelands duo. Again, it kinda reminds me of The Clinic in the New Universe comic book, D.P. 7. It seems like they will have to confront the doctor, but I think Shai should monitor her electronically and Himari slip into her office to see if they can find what she is doing with their information. Shai informs them of an event on their phones and in a splash page we see that there is a “March for Mercy” set to bring police and state troopers to the town. It looks like these teens must rally all of the students and separate to use their powers to stop this rally. A very compelling issue with great art and a story that covers everything you need before the big confrontation.
