Happy Birthday Dame Agatha Christie! The brilliant mystery writer of the adventures of Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple! The first story of Poirot was in The Mystery Affair of Styles (1920) and Christie wrote a total of thirty three novels featuring the detective! The earliest Poirot film was Alibi (1931). In 1974, there as Sidney Lumet's adaptation of Murder on the Orient Express. Albert Finney played Poirot. David Suchet played the character in Agatha Christie's Poirot that began in 1989 to 2013. Kenneth Branagh then played Poirot and directed his adaptation in 2017. The first story of Miss Marple, about 52 years before Angela Lansbury in "Murder, She Wrote, was The Thirteen Problems (1932).
Miss Marple was adapted to television in "Miss Marple: The Body in the Library" (1984) and there was a long running series in Agatha Christie's Marple starting in 2004. Christie is also known for her play writing, The Mousetrap, begun in 1954 and finished its run in 2018, 64 years! She has the distinction of having the world's longest running play! Christie also has the honor of the Guinnness World Record's best fiction writer of all time! She was made Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1971. Dame Agatha Christie died in 1976, Agatha Christie: An Autobiography was published posthumously, but her work continues to appear with Death on the Nile, directed by Branagh set to be released on October 23rd!
