Obi-Wan Kenobi, “Part IV”, Review!

Part III Re:run - The last part of the episode had Obi-Wan running to distract from Leia’s escape.  He had reached a mining quarry, the site of many Doctor Who alien worlds, when he had to face Darth Vader.  Off of his peak after so many years in exile and haunted by visions of Anakin when he left him on Mustafar, Obi-Wan is not ready.  His searching in the dark with the lightsaber is filled with tension.  Darth Vader says to him, “I am what you made me.”  Reva uses the Force to open the droid maintenance room.  Leia wants Tala to go back to help Obi-Wan.  The Jedi can no longer run and duels with Darth Vader who of course uses only one hand to use his lightsaber.  Tala has Leia continue through the tunnels to meet with a pilot, Leia hugs her, and Tala heads back.  Vader knocks Obi-Wan back with a Force push and Obi-Wan severs a line sending up steam.

Reva has found the secret room and a symbol of the Old Republic is carved on the wall.  Vader tosses down a container of rocks which may be the Vintrium that they mine on the planet.  He has Obi-Wan in a Force choke and then burns the Vintrium with his lightsaber!  Then, Vader slides Obi-Wan on the fiery Vintrium, strangely his clothes do not ignite.  Torture like his own on Mustafar.  Vala watches on the hill above as Stormtroopers arrive!  Vader snuffs out the fire for the Stormtroopers to take him into custody.  Vala blasts a Stormtrooper and then re-ignites the fire blasting a Vintrium container.  NED-B takes away Obi-Wan as the Stormtrooper try to blast them.  Darth Vader just watches them.  Vala checks on Obi-Wan and has NED-B ready the flight to Jabiim.  Leia has reached the spaceport and is given reassurances by a warm voice, until the dead pilot is revealed, and we find that it is Reva!

Part IV begins with blurry vision and Obi-Wan’s ragged breath.  Distantly, he can hear Tala piloting the ship.  At a base, Tala and NED-B take Obi-Wan on a gurney to a bacta tank.  In the bacta tank, Obi-Wan’s right side is scarred from the flames. He has visions of Vader’s wounds. Obi-Wan is startled awake and swims up to the top of the tank.  Tala tells him they are on Jabiim and Obi-Wan asks about Leia.  We see the stormy seas and Fortress Inquisitorious.  Leia is in a room with Stormtrooper guards and says, “I’m a princess of Alderaan!”  Reva enters, Leia is defiant, and she tells her prisoner that Obi-Wan is dead.  The reaction of Blair’s face? Priceless, her brashness just goes into silence.  Tala and Obi-Wan walk over to the leader of the Path, Roken (O’Shea Jackson), who wants General Kenobi to leave to protect his people.  Obi-Wan needs to find Leia.  They walk back to the hangar and Obi-Wan brings up that he doesn’t know the danger of the Empire.

Roken tells him about his wife who was Force sensitive and she was tracked down by the Inquisitors.  He agrees to help and later shows a holo map of Nur and Fortress Inquisitorious.  Obi-Wan asks if Vader is there and Roken says he is on his ship, this would be his flagship, the Devastator that was at the beginning of Star Wars.  Pilot, Wade (Ryder McLaughlin) is told by fellow pilot, Sully (Maya Erskine) that the fortress can’t be breached. McLaughlin was in the series, Ballers, and Erskine was on the comedy show, PEN15. Obi-Wan suggests using T-47 speeders (the same as in ESB) and decides to go on his own.  He is still weak from the fire and Tala joins him to use her officer clearance.  On the flight to Nur, Obi-Wan practices his leviatation, but can just scoot an object a short distance.  Tala is in her Imperial officer’s uniform, her rank pips, threee red one blue, shows that she was a captain.  She says he to fully recover in a bacta tank and also time to heal from his psychological wounds.

Reva tells Leia about a discovery on Balnab about a secret network.  The Inquisitors have found two of the safehouses, Reva slams the Old Republic symbol torn from the wooden wall. Leia wants to know how Obi-Wan died.  Reva says he burned.  Leia defies Reva.  Tala’s ship reaches the fortress.  A break out of a Force sensitive child from a secure Imperial place?  Yup, instead of Grogu, we have Leia!  Tala walks past Stormtroopers and officers until reaching a security checkpoint.  She is stopped by a security guard, Tala says she has Officer Class C clearance, but he takes her code cylinder.  He says she is in the wrong sector, but gets dressed down by Tala for his lower rank.  It is perfect.  Hasbro get to work on her action figure.  She sighs after leaving the checkpoint.  Tala reaches a terminal console enters her code cylinder and informs Obi-Wan that she’s in.  He is swimming under water, nice, greenish water cloudy with particulates, using the A99 aquata breather that he used in TPM.  Tala whispers to him that she opened an entry port.

Obi-Wan swims in, a Stormtrooper checks out the entry port, but is chocked out and thrown into the water!  Third Sister tries to pull a Kylo Ren on Leia who doesn’t notice, she is a Skywalker!, and asks if it is a staring contest.  Hasbro!, action figure of Leia with LO-LA59!  The droid flies at Reva, but she catches it with the Force saying she had a droid when she was younger, but it was taken away, hints at Third Sister’s past.  Obi-Wan is looking for the detention area.  Tala notes the security as a seeker droid floats past Obi-Wan and they are everywhere on that level.  She is taken away by another officer, Obi-Wan tries to contact her on the comlink, we see a closeup of Tala’s comlink exactly like 3PO’s device at the Death Star scene, nice callback.  Obi-Wan slips into a door that is scanned by a seeker droid while Tala silently bashes up the terminal officer. Seeker droids were sent by Darth Maul in TPM.

He has to go into hiding from Stormtrooopers and Tala whispers his name altering the Bucket Heads.  Obi-Wan has to use the Force to distract them, again like in Star Wars.  Reva wants to know about the Path, Leia seems emotional, and then says she has to ask her father.  Third Sister almost clenches her fist and then Leia shouts she will never tell Reva their location.  Obi-Wan has entered a secure sector and uses his code cylinder to enter. Stormtroopers have taken Leia to torture chamber.  Again, this may be upsetting for younger viewers.  Leia screams for help.  Obi-Wan has entered a chamber with many cells holding amber.  He tells Tala that the place is a tomb!  Obi-Wan sees what looks like Jedi Master Tera Sinube, he was introduced in the Clone Wars episode, “Grievous Intrigue” (2010). Now we know his fate!  Leia is lowered on a table and a menacing needle is above her!  Obi-Wan sees more Jedi including a woman.

Reva screams at Leia who screams her defiance back. We hear the humming of the Interrogator droid from Star Wars.  There is also a youngling Jedi with a training helmet, one from the Jedi Temple scene at the beginning of the series? Obi-Wan hears Leia’s screams and asks Tala for a distraction.  It looks like two blades are headed for Leia’s head which reminds me of the device used by the mice in Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy (2005).  A female officer enters and says there is an urgent matter.  Reva enters the control room to talk with Tala who knows about the Path. Tala explains that she was assigned to Mapuzo when she found out that the Path is on Florrum for the Jedi to change identities.  Florrum is an Outer Rim world first appearing in the “Dooku Captured” (2009) episode of Clone Wars.  Third Sister suspects she is lying. Leia sruggles in the torture device when the lights go out.

The two Stormtrooper guards are taken down by Obi-Wan’s lightsaber.  Leia smiles as she is freed and says to Obi-Wan that she didn’t give up intel.  Reva says that she suspects a double agent.  She says Obi-Wan and Leia couldn’t get past the checkpoint without help.  Tala says she admits being a spy, going two years undercover until Kenobi arrived and disrupted the operation.  She emphasizes they are on Florrum.  A seeker droid detects Leia and Obi-Wan activating an alert.  Reva orders Tala to be interrogated when the base klaxxon blares and Tala says it’s Obi-Wan.  Third Sister leaves.  Then, Tala takes down two Stormtroopers.  Obi-Wan deflects the seeker droid’s blaster and also Stormtroopers.  The seeker droid sends an electrical current on its lower limbs.  Reva marches with Stormtroopers and a black armored Purge Trooper. The Purge Trooper was introduced in the mobile game, Star Wars: Uprising (2015). Obi-Wan uses his lightsaber to deflect Stormtrooper blasts from both sides, but one shot has struck the window!  Obi-Wan Kenobi just has thrills as Obi-Wan has to rescue Leia from Fortress Inquisitorius and escape from Third Sister!
