Hollywood Show - October 22, 2022!

This is my second Hollywood Show this year so there were a few Disney voice actors that I had to see this time!  April's show is here: http://geektruth.blogspot.com/2022/04/hollywood-show-2022.html.  After walking around the show floor, I went to the table with Richard Reitherman and his brother, Bruce Reitherman.  Their father, Wolfgang Reitherman, directed their films.  I started on Richard’s part of the table, really because he voiced Wart in The Sword in the Stone (1963).  This was based on the T.H. White novel in 1938 and became the first part of T.H. White’s novel, The Once and Future King (1958).  There is a live action movie planned for Disney+.  I can see that Cgi realizing some great perspectives in the transformations.  I remembered a scene with Wart, the future King Arthur as an ant learning how society functions.  The ground work for the effects are already set up for Ant-Man (2015).

I was fascinated that Bruce Reitherman voiced Mowgli in The Jungle Book (1967) and Christopher Robin in Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree (1966)!   Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book (1894) was actually a collection of stories.  Some of the other stories were made into The White Seal (1975), Rikki-Tikki-Tavi (1975), and Mowgli’s Brothers (1976).  The animated shorts were directed by animation legend, Chuck Jones.  I brought up the live action The Jungle Book (2016) which Bruce Reitherman said would have been better with original songs.  He is right that using the original songs invites comparisons to the animated classic.  Winnie the Pooh is one of my favorite Disney characters.  He was introduced in Winnie-the-Pooh (1926) by A.A. Milne.  I mentioned the Benjamin Hoff book, The Tao of Pooh, a charming and thoughtful introduction to Milne and Taoism.

Later, it was great to see Christopher Daniel Barnes, he is okay with Chris.  He voiced Prince Eric in The Little Mermaid (1989).  This was based on the fairy tale by Hans Christian Anderson in his collection, Fairy Tales Told for Children (1837).  I would like the live action adaptations to bring more material from the original stories.  I’m expecting sea foam with Ariel’s fate.  We talked about the live action film and possible showing up at the premiere and being a guest at D23 Expo.  He said that it really depends on fans requesting him for D23 Expo.  So Disney fans, what are you waiting for?  Chris Barnes was very memorable as Scott Hayden, Jr. in the Starman series.  It lasted one season (1986-1987) and based on the sci fi romance movie, Starman (1984) directed by John Carpenter.  He was also Greg Brady in The Brady Bunch Movie (1995) and A Very Brady Sequel (1996).  Barnes is known as Peter Parker in Spider-Man: The Animated Series (1994-1998).

In the back was the tables for Cindy Morgan who starred as Lacey Underall in the comedy Caddyshack (1980) and also was in Tron (1982) as Lora IRL and Yori in the game world.  .  She voiced Ma3a in the Tron 2.0 (2003) video game.  Morgan was also co-starring in the action series, Bring `Em Back Alive (1982-1983) as Gloria Marlowe, United States Consul.  Next to her was her co-star in the series, Bruce Boxleitner, playing Frank Buck, a big game hunter.  He was also Alan Bradley and his avatar in Tron.  Boxleitner was another sci fi hero, Captain John Sheridan, in Babylon 5 (1994-1998).  He also provided his voiced in the Tron 2.0 game, returned in the sequel, Tron: Legacy (2010), and the animated series, Tron: Uprising (2012-2013).  It was also great to see Ola Ray, who starred as Michael's Girl in one of the best music videos, Michael Jackson's Thriller (1983).  She has her autobiography, The Thrill of It All (2022), available now!  There were many celebrities to meet, maybe get a picture or selfie, and some items to get signed at The Hollywood Show!
