This episode moves from Mando and Bo-Katan to another part of the Star Wars universe for an unknown reason. A necessary Re:cap of “The Mines of Mandalore”, Din Djarin is driven to finish his mission and Bo-Katan Kryze leads him through the undercity. She says the fighting between clans made them weak against the Empire. They reach the mines, she said she took the Creed, but is cynical about the myths. They reach the Living Waters and she reads from a plaque about Mandalore the Great fighting the Mythosaur. It became the symbol of Mandalore. Mando takes off his cloak, pistols, and jet pack. Then, Din recites the Creed walking into the dark water, chest deep he is dragged under the waters! Bo-Katan with her helmet on leaps in and is assisted by her jet pack. She searches for him, helmet light on, and then deactivates it to see Din’s helmet light. He has fallen to the cavern bottom. Bo-Katan pulls him upwards, her helmet light illuminates a tusk, and then the eye of the Mythosaur! She gasps air bubbles, but continues on taking Din to the surface! “Chapter 19: The Convert” starts at the rescue, on the steps, Bo-Katan looks out at the still waters.
Mando starts coughing, Grogu is at his side, he says, “I am redeemed.” Bo-Katan says she is his witness. She is ready to leave. Din picks up a vial of the Living Water. Bo-Katan asks what he saw and he replies he just saw the chasm. She says it must have been from the bombing. Bo-Katan asks if he saw anything alive, but Mando is just surprised. It pulled him down and let him go almost as a test of Bo-Katan’s faith. Her Gauntlet fighter leaves the planet. Din only wants to be left off at ship and Bo-Katan mentions not taking off his helmet. They repeat, “This is the Way.” Suddenly, they struck by a blast! Five TIE interceptors are in pursuit. They are not close enought to Kalevala. Din mans the rear cannon. Bo-Katan breaks atmo and heads towards her castle. She says she can’t slow for his transfer to his N-1. He manages only to destroy one fighter. Grogu closes up his pod. Mando makes the jump, TIEs streak past him, a short burst of his jet pack sets him on the landing pad. An interceptor starts his run on the landing pad, but the N-1 does a quick take-off! Din goes into a free fall and unleashes a torpedo to destroy the interceptor. Bo-Katan is evading the other TIE interceptors around Kalevala’s cliffs. R5-D4 panics.

The Gauntlet clips the edge of a cliff and an interceptor runs into it! I like the cliff starfighter chase! An interceptor is destroyed by the N-1! Bo-Katan has Din split up to take out another TIE fighter. She pulls a reverse, cutting engines, and using a wing to turn around. Bo-Katan blasts the last interceptor. They head back to the castle. There are explosions as TIE Bombers level the Kyrze Castle. Similar to the attack on Maz Kanata’s castle. Bo-Katan starts to hunt down the bombers, she destroys one with a missile. Din sees on his target scope filled with enemy targets. Bo-Katan pulls back and R5 falls like he is almost fainting. She remarks that there are too many for a warlord. It looks like her former army has turned the former Imperials against her. Mando sends over coordinates to Bo-Katan, “someplace where they can’t find them.” Dr. Pershing was last seen in “The Rescue” (2020), he had part of his ear blasted off by Cara Dune when he disrespected Alderaan. Comms Officer, was also seen in “The Rescue”, she admitted the shuttle for emergency docking. There is explosions as TIE Bombers level the castle. as TIE Bombers level the Kryze Castle. Mando sends over coordinates to Bo-Katan, “someplace where they can’t find them.” This shifts to to the night skyline of Coruscant. This is not the jump place of Mando, but just a sudden transition that is confusing. At the Galaxies Opera House which we first saw in Revenge of the Sith (2005), a speech is given by Dr. Pershing (Omid Abtahi). He was last seen in “The Rescue” (2020) where he was insulting Alderaan and got his ear blasted by Cara Dune. An officer walks up the steps to take a seat, a hologram projects Pershing who speaks on the circular stage. He explains his research was used unknowingly. The officer takes her seat, it is the comm officer (Katy M. O’Brian) who allowed the shuttle to land in “The Rescue.” Pershing says he lost his mother, but cloning could have saved her.
He says the Kaminoans used cloning from a single individual and his research was to use the best of two donor’s genetic code. He is met by several aristocrats including a Mon Calamari one. They fawn over him which makes absolutely no sense with the rest of his segment. Pershing is taken to the Amnesty Housing by a taxi droid who suggests him destinations. He finds several amnesty officers having a drink at a table. Pershing is greeted by Amnesty Officer M-34 (Max Fowler). His own number is Amnesty Scientist L52, but he is famous enough to be a featured speaker at the opera house? I don’t understand the dehumanizing numbers. The New Republic seems harsh. Pershing explains that he was transferred from the Re-Integration Institute. M-34 introduces G27 (James Chen), M40 (Matthew Bellows), and the comm officer now known as G68. Besides G68, the others are unimportant and don’t play into the rest of the episode. He recognizes her from Moff Gideon’s ship. The others just heard rumors about Gideon like he escaped or a Mind Flayer was used on him. This was mentioned by Cara Dune in “Redemption” (2019). The term comes from the Dungeons & Dragons monster who was also introduced in Stranger Things.
G68 offers to show Pershing around Coruscant. They mentions things they miss and Pershing brings up the yellow travel biscuits from the ration packs. Later, he finds a box of travel biscuits at his door. In an office space cubicle, Pershing works cataloging data cards for the archives, a job for droids. So he is well known enough to lecture at the opera house, has many wealthy citizens who could be patrons, and Pershing is stuck doing a rote administrative job? If this is a commentary on enemy scientists after war time, then it is a boring one. G68 and Pershing have glowing treats, colorful popsicles. Later, she reveals her name is Elia Kane. There are magic tricks and a juggling droid on stilts. Yes, a carnival-like atmosphere make Coruscant a family environment. Not corrupt like in Attack of the Clones (2002) or dangerous in the Clone Wars. Pershing’s attention is drawn to a rock formation, G68 explains that it is Umate, Coruscant’s highest mountain. The music is a carnival variation of the Revenge of the Sith opening with the Battle of Coruscant. G68 tricks him into trying to touch Umate, but a droid warns him. The next day, Pershing meets with a parole droid who just asks basic questions, he asks if he can continue his work. The droid says cloning is forbidden by the Coruscant Accords. The Mandalorian, third episode, moves from action to inaction, a change in tone and characters with Dr. Pershing, it is like if in The Book of Boba Fett, episodes suddenly become The Mandalorian, oh, ok.
