Disney Magic Kingdoms Review!

For some reason, I was suddenly reminded about Disney Magic Kingdoms, and the game launched in 2016! So here’s a late entry. The game is from Gameloft as an app and also for Windows. Gameloft also has the Disney Dreamlight Valley game. I knew this was a world building game like one of my favorites, RollerCoaster Tycoon (1999), there is also the Idle Theme Park Tycoon app game. In the previous game, you build a theme park, piece by piece, and bring in guests with new rides and by checking their happiness and hunger. Disney Magic Kingdoms is not concerned with the technical theme park build, but just dropping buildings and putting familiar Disney characters on quests.

Mickey Mouse is helping Merlin from Sword and the Stone (1963) to break the darkness, curse, that Maleficent has cast over the park. Adding Merlin alone makes this one of my favorite games. He disappears while you help Mickey set up the park, but has returned as a character. Also, the start screen features Black Cauldron (1985), I’m happy. You break the darkness on Cinderella’s Castle. Mickey’s first quest is to find Goofy. He disappeared with the darkness, but has returned! I was filled with  joy to add Goofy, yeah, just a game character, and yup, he is nearly everything Disney, but it was great to have him with his fun animation! He signs on as the park’s handy man and that is perfect.

Act I is Toon Town, in a section to the right of the Hub, you can place Mickey and then Goofy’s house. This is in a square of several boxes so it is limited, but still great to place the buildings. Then, Mickey’s Fun Wheel, love it! You can send Goofy to fix the merry-go-round. Next, you unlock Woody to work as security! There’s of course Main Street, behind it is Merlin’s tower, and across the railroad tracks is Galaxy’s Edge! To the left of the Hub is Frontierland and beyond it looks like Adventureland. These areas are cursed so you have to build up some magic to break the curse there. A great way to preview and open new areas of the game. The quests may take some time up to a few hours so you can move on to check character quests to earn gems and magic, found in blue bottles.

You pay gems to unlock characters like Pluto. A purple carpet rings around the castle and you can activate a parade to travel around the shimmering route! You also have to look around the park to find chests. Also, there are commercials to watch to get more gems and magic which is a nice way to see promotions. The ongoing game play is to deal with Pete. Long time Mickey villain, Pete, is just a complaining, ill-tempered character. Goofy tries to make him happy with music and sandwiches, but Pete doesn’t seem to cheer up. You can level up characters helping them complete quests like Mickey currently misses Minnie, but can’t find her! Disney Magic Kingdoms has some great characters and endless game play!
