Happy Birthday Robin Wright!

Happy Birthday Robin Wright!  Of course we know her as Princess Buttercup in Princess Bride (1987), but Wright started on the soap opera Santa Barbara.  Her first film role was actually in Penelope Spheeris’ Hollywood Vice Squad (1986).  She was Jenny in Forrest Gump (1994).  Wright also played Audrey Dunn in Unbreakable (2000).  She provided the voice of Walthow in the animated Beowulf (2007).  She was in the drama Moneyball (2011) and also the thriller adaptation of The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo (2011).  Wright begun her award winning run on House of Cards as Claire Underwood in 2013.

Also that year, she won the Golden Globe for Best Actress for the part.  Wright had an incredible year in 2017, as General Antiope in Wonder Woman, and played Lieutenant Joshi in Blade Runner 2049, two of my favorite movies!  Then, she returned as Antiope in Justice League.  There is the comparison of another character turned princess to general. She took the lead role in House of Cards becoming President of the United States.  Wright appeared as Antiope in Wonder Woman 1984.  This year, she wrote and directed the drama Land.  She played Edee Mathis surviving the Wyoming wilderness.  Happy Birthday Robin Wright!

Happy Birthday Billy Dee Williams!  The television drama, Brian’s Song (1971) nominated his performance for a Best Actor Emmy.  Next, he starred in Lady Sings the Blues (1972), a biographical drama based on singer Billie Holiday played by Diana Ross.  Then, Williams was in Mahogany (1975) also with co-star Ross.  He played the ragtime composer in the tv movie, Scott Joplin (1977).  His iconic role, Lando Calrissian, was in Empire Strikes Back (1980).  He starred in the Slyvester Stallone action movie, Nighthawks (1981).  Williams voiced Lando on the National Public Radio production of Empire Strikes Back (1983).  He became General Lando Calrissian in Return of the Jedi (1983).  Williams recieved his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1985.  Williams starred in Colt 45 malt liquor commercials that became wildly popular.  In 1987, he was a replacement for James Earl Jones in the Broadway production of August Wilson’s Fences.  Yup, Lando took over for Darth Vader, and the part is one of the most dramatic for any actor!

Billy Dee Williams played Billy Diamond, undercover agent, in the television drama, Double Dare (1985).  He starred as district attorney Harvey Dent, who later became Two-Face, in Batman (1989).  Fanboys (2009) had some fans try to sneak into Skywalker Ranch and they encounter a judge named Reinhold, ok pun, played by Williams.  He was able to return as Lando in the animated Lego Movie (2014).  Then, Williams voiced Lando Calrissian in 2015 episodes of Star Wars: Rebels.  He reprised his Colt 45 commercials in 2016.  Finally, Williams was able to play Two-Face voicing him in the animated The Lego Batman Movie (2017).  It was another role Williams reprised as Lando in The Rise of Skywalker (2019).  A welcome return was voicing the charaxter in The Lego Star Wars Holiday Special (2020).  There is an upcoming Lando series so we can always hope to see more Billy Dee Williams.  Happy Birthday Billy Dee Williams!

Happy Birthday Hayley Atwell!

Happy Birthday Hayley Atwell!  She started a distinguished career in theater and started in film with Cassandra’s Dream (2007).  Lady Elizabeth Foster was played by Atwell to critical acclaim in The Duchess (2008). Atwell recieved a Golden Globe nomination for  in the television adaptation of Ken Follett’s novel, Pillars of the Earth (2010).  She entered the MCU as Agent Peggy Carter in Captain America: The First Avenger (2011).  Atwell starred in the “Be Right Back” (2013) episode of Black Mirror.  Next she was in the Marvel One-Shot short film, Agent Carter (2013). Happy Birthday Robert Downey Jr.!

Happy Birthday RDJ! Robert Downey Jr. is fascinating as an actor, one of his early roles was as the preppy bully, Ian, in Weird Science (1985).  Then he was on Saturday Night Live (1985-1986) for a year, he hasn’t returned as host.  Downey Jr. starred in the comedy Back to School (1986), roommate to Rodney Dangerfield in college.  In 1990, RDJ was in the action comedy Air America based on the 1979 account by Christopher Robbins.  Next, he was in the comedy, Soapdish, playing soap opera producer David Seton Barnes.  He changed everything with his lead role in Chaplin (1992), based on Chaplin’s autobiography and biography, it was directed by Richard Attenborough covering the life and films of the director and film icon.  I consider this to be Robert Downey Jr.’s best part to this date.  He appeared in the crime film Natural Born Killers (1994) as Wayne Gale.  Downey Jr. played Special Agent Royce, a follow up to The Fugitive (1993).  Next, Robert Downey Jr. was in the series Ally McBeal (2000-2002) as Larry Paul.  He had the lead role, Dan Dark, in the comedy musical, The Singing Detective (2003) based on the BBC series.

He was part of the duo in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (2005) directed by Shane Black.  One of his genre films was Richard Linklater’s strangely animated A Scanner Darkly (2006) based on Philip K. Dick’s novel. Jon Favreau took a chance pushing for RDJ on the role that set him as superstar, Iron Man (2008) that launched the Marvel Cinematic Universe! He was back in a comedic role in Tropic Thunder (2008). Downey Jr. also had another franchise iconic role with Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes (2009). RDJ returned as Tony Stark in Iron Man 2 (2010).  He also returned in Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows (2011).  Then, he was in the superhero ensemble film, The Avengers (2012).  He finished the MCU trilogy with Iron Man 3 directed and co-written by Shane Black.  Downey Jr. was Marvin in Jon Favreau’s Chef (2014).  Then, he was in the drama, The Judge (2014).  He of course unleashed Ultron in Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), broke the Avengers with Captain America: Civil War (2016) and acted as mentor in Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017).  He faced Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War (2018)!  He loved MCU fans 3000 in Avengers: Endgame (2020).  In 2020, he played the lead in the family comedy, Dolittle.  Happy Birthday Robert Downey Jr.!

Re:tro Re:view - Kong: Skull Island!

Kong Skull Island introduces Kong to the Monsterverse and sets the war parable against Kaiju survival!  I knew King Kong from the 1976 remake, it wasn’t memorable, then it was King Kong vs. Godzilla (1962) which had some great Kaiju action, but the Kong suit was not up to standards and it was silly.  Then, came the Peter Jackson King Kong (2005) which was a CG disappointment, it just doesn’t seem to bring the love of the original, have fun characters, and even have the power of the first King Kong (1933).  Kong entered the MonsterVerse with this movie directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts.  He also directed episodes of the horror comedy show, Death Valley (2011).  The story is by John Gatins who worte the screenplay for Real Steel (2011).  The screenplay is by Dan Gilroy who wrote and directed Nightcrawler (2014), Derek Connelly, one of the screenwriters for Jurassic World (20150, and Max Borenstein who is crafting the MonsterVerse staring with Godzilla (2014).  The film takes off with gunfire in the clouds as we get that it is “Somewhere over the South Pacific, 1944.”

We see the glare of the sun as a man comes falling down from the sky!  There is a beach with rocky formations around it and a plane crashes down.  An American soldier (Will Brittain) in a parachute lands,.  He was in the comedy series 25 & Counting.  Another plane crashes and the Japanese pilot parachutes to the beach (Miyavi).  He was in the biographical drama Unbroken (2014).  The American fires his gun at his enemy, the shots hit around Gunpei in the sand dune.  The Japanese shoots at the rival pilot and then chases him into the jungle to a cliff.  He has his sword and also a knife, but while they struggle a massive paw clamps down on the cliff!  It is the massive head of Kong and he roars!  There is some newsreel footage of the scientific discoveries and political climate before we get Washington D.C. in 1973.  There are protestors of the war before we get the cab of  Bill Randa (John Goodman).  He was previously in the horror movie 10 Cloverfield Lane (2016).  He is an official for the Monarch official going to the government for a mission since the company is running out of funds.

Randa is working with geologist Houston Brooks (Corey Hawkins), he was in episodes of The Walking Dead.  Glasses and wearing a sweater, Brooks is too collegiate to operate in the jungle.  Randa is meeting with Senator Willis (Richard Jenkins), he was in The Cabin in the Woods (2012), his character’s name is a nod to special effects legend of the original Kong, Willis O’Brien.  He presents the senator of satellite photos taken recently of Skull Island.  Brooks notes that Landsat, the NASA program to mapping through satellites, is sending a mission.  Also, that the Russians will find the island in three days.  The senator reluctantly agrees and Randa adds that will need a military escort.  This shifts to the Da Nang Air Base in Vietnam, soldiers are playing cards as the 3rd Assault Helicopter Company is getting ready to close.  Watching them is Lieutenant Colonel Preston Packard (Samuel L. Jackson).  Jackson was also in The Legend of Tarzan (2016).

In his office, he is met by Major Jack Chapman (Toby Kebbell), he was in the drama, A Monster Calls (2016).  Packard checks a box of mail and other belongings.  It shifts to his office at night.  We get the soldiers laughing in the rain and Colonel Packard is directed to a phone call.  Even though all of his unit are ready to ship back home, Packard approves of one last op escorting the Landsat team with his helicopters to the island.  In the rain, Quan Nam, Saigon, Randa is searching for a tracker at a bar.  They find him, James Conrad (Tom Hiddleston) playing pool, and then he takes out several men with his pool stick.  Hiddleston was previously starring in Crimson Peak (2015).  In her dark room, war time photographer Mason Weaver (Brie Larson) is checking her photos.  Larson played the mother in the drama, Room (2015).  Mason gets a call that she is approved for the Landsat mission.  The Athena is docked at Bangkok, Thailand.  She meets with Packard before boarding.  Yup, it’s basically Captain Marvel meeting Nick Fury before the movie!

Everyone is briefed on the mission, the “resource exploration team” with Randa and Brooks also includes Miss San (Jing Tian), a biologist.  Tian was also in the action movie, The Great Wall (2016).  Brooks explains that they will be dropping seismic bombs to chart the underground.  Major Chapman points out that the storms will block radio and the only other contact will be through the refueling ship that will meet with them in three days.  Conrad is checking the hold and is met by Mason.  In the morning, everyone prepares for the arrival to the island, they board the helicopters and then launch from the ship into the storm!  It is bumpy ride through lightning, but the helicopters break through and reach Skull Island. The seismic charges are dropped, spinning hand-held bombs, that reveal to Brooks a “Hollow Earth”, this is a hint that leads to Godzilla vs. Kong.  A helicopter sees a massive tree heading toward the cockpit before it smashes into it!  The charges have awakened Kong!

We see the setting sun with the dark form of Kong rising and helicopters closing in on him bi-plane style.  It is a shot out of Apocalypse Now (1979).  They close in on Kong and Packard gives the order to open fire.  It does not go well.  Packard’s helicopter goes down.  The helicopter of Conrad and Mason follows it.  Packard can only stare vengefully at Kong tearing up his helicopter company.  Chapman is also grounded.  The groups are separated and Conrad has to lead his group to the river.  They encounter a Kaiju-sized water buffalo which is mostly docile and other beasties a little more hostile.  This is more of an eco-system than a world of all predators in Godzilla vs. Kong.  The worst of the Skull Island creatures is the Skull Crawlers, reptilian Kaiju with hardened heads like skulls.  Conrad’s group finds the Iwe natives, Jia from GvK was the last of them.  They are lead by a marooned character played by John C. Reilly.  He was in Guardians of the Galaxy (2014).  His character is eccentric, a little funny, and a survivor.  The two groups have to get through the dangers of Skull Island to reach the rendezvous with Packard intent on revenge. Kong: Skull Island has some interesting Kaiju battles that stand above the other Kong movies.

Happy Birthday Pedro Pascal!

Happy Birthday Pedro Pascal!  He had a role in a 1999 episode of the supernatural show Good vs. Evil.  Also that year, Pascal appeared in “The Freshman” episode of Buffy the Vampire.  In 2000, he was in “Stealing Hope” as Ricky in Touched by an Angel.  Goth Guy was played by Pascal in the television horror movie, Earth vs. the Spider (2001).  He played Ed Indelicator in the 2011 pilot of the Wonder Woman series that did not air.  One of his early films was the sci fi movie The Adjustment Bureau (2011).  Pascal played Juan Badillo in several episodes of the action series, Graceland.

Still, he started getting notice playing Obery Martell in 2014 episodes of Game of Thrones.  Next, he played the lead, Javier Peña, in Narcos.  He also played Pero Tovar in The Great Wall (2016).  Then, Pascal was in Kingsman: The Golden Circle (2017) playing Agent Whiskey.  He was also in the action film, The Equalizer 2 (2018) and then the drama If Beale Street Could Talk (2018).  Pedro Pascal really came to the spotlight with his lead role in The Mandalorian.  Baby Yoda was safe in the protection of The Mandalorian.  Wonder Woman 1984 (2020) featured Pascal as Maxwell Lord.  Happy Birthday Pedro Pascal!

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, “Power Broker”, Review!

Last episode was so spoiler filled, let’s unpack it now in this re:Cap.  Karli gets to a safe house for her Flag Smashers with a man and his wife looking to help them.  She recieves a text that an unknown number that they took the medical supplies from that person. The texter threatens to find and kill her!  Another member finds that they were spotted in Munich, Germany.  Karli has the other commit to the cause with their slogan, “One world, one people.”  It just hit me that if Sarah in her difficult financial state joins the Flag-Smashers, it would crush Sam!  Bucky takes Sam to Baltimore, Maryland.  There is a house with a young kid (Elijah Richardson) tries to send them away, Bucky says to tell Isiah that the “guy from the bar from Guyang is there.” Richardson was in the New Amsterdam drama.  They meet Isaiah Bradley (Carl Lumbly), he of course is known for the action series, Alias.  We find out that Isaiah was sent after the Winter Soldier and ripped off part of his cyborg arm.  Also, that he has the Super Soldier serum, this is shocking since we find that he was Captain America revealed in Truth: Red, White & Black #1 (2003).  Also, that the young man is Eli Bradley, who eventually becomes Patriot in Young Avengers #1 (2005)!

Isaiah tells them that he was imprisoned and his blood taken from him, this is how the Super Soldier serum led to the Flag-Smashers?  They leave and Sam is angry, police officers stop him, more real world entering the MCU.  Still, Bucky is arrested after he misses the session with Dr. Raynor, could she be the mysterious Power Broker?  They are freed by John Walker.  She has an uncomfortable session with Bucky and Sam.  Once they finish, the duo heads to see Zemo (Daniel Brühl), whom we last saw in Captain America: Civil War (2016)!   This episode starts with a commercial from the Global Repatriation Council with their tagline, “Reset, Restore, Rebuild.” Then, a GRC police van rolls up, the new “Captain America” appears with the shield.  He questions a man who harbored Karli and brings in Battlestar to translate.  Angry, “Captain America” slams him back.  At Zemo’s detention center, Bucky tells Sam that he will go in to talk to Zemo.  In his Hannibal Lector-like cell, Zemo repeats the code words that activate Winter Soldier, but of course they don’t work on Bucky.  He tells Zemo about the Super Soldier serum being recreated.

Later, at a garage, Sam is angry at Bucky for wanting to break out Zemo.  Bucky explains Zemo’s plan where he has two prisoners fight and manages to slip into an officer’s uniform in the confusion. Sam is upset at seeing Zemo.  A team up with a super villain, yup, Sam and Bucky are in a desperate situation.  Zemo shows them the cars that he has collected working against the Super Soldiers and takes the purple mask, this is the mask of the super villain in the comics!  They appear at an airport, Zemo dressed in a suit, explains that he was a baron in Sokovia.  He meets with an elderly assistant and on the flight, Zemo sees Bucky’s list and asks about Nakajima.  This is of course the Winter Soldier’s kill and he got to see his father in the pilot.  Falcon knows the book and mentions that he recommended Marvin Gaye’s “Trouble Man” to Steve.  They both warn Zemo, of course his manipulation most likely resulted or formed the Flag Smashers.  He brings up Madripoor, this is a setting more familiar with X-Men, introduced in New Mutants #32 (1985).

At Riga, Latvia, Karli is kicking around a soccer ball with some kids.  She is called over to tearfully see a woman who is in a bed.  Then, we get the night lights of the city of Madripoor. On a bridge, Sam mentions he is in pimp-like clothes of the man he is impersonating, the Smiling Tiger.  It looks like Bucky is dressed as the Winter Soldier.  They get into a car to head to Low Town which was the former haunt of Wolverine in the comics.  Several motorcycles surround the car and then pull away as escorts.  They reach the town, rough with people carrying machine guns, spray painted on the wall is “Power Broker is Watching.” At a bar, Zemo asks to see his contact, Selby.  A figure in a hood walks away at Zemo’s mention.  The bartender cuts open a snake to add to the Smiling Tiger’s usual drink.  A bearded man mentions to Zemo that he is not wanted there, Zemo mentions to Sam about the Power Broker who runs Madripoor.  He sends the Winter Soldier a seemingly order to attack several bar patrons.  This gets a meeting with Selby (Imelda Corcoran), he offers her the Winter Soldier in exchange for what she knows of the Super Soldier serum.

The Winter Soldier’s costume from Avengers: Endgame, D23 Expo, 2019, photo by the author.

Selby brings up Dr. Wilfred Nagel.  In the middle of this, Sam gets a call from Sarah!, Selby wants him to answer the call on speaker!  Sam tries to act tough talking to Sarah about the “situation.”  Selby hears Sarah calling him Sam, the jig is up, thanks Sarah.  She is assassinated and while they take down the guards, her death leads to a bounty on this trio!  Sam and Bucky are chased into an alley and gunmen are shot down by their ally.  Who turns out to be Sharon Carter (Emily VanCamp), she was last seen in Captain America: Civil War (2016)!   She has her gun on Zemo and Sam tries to update her on the situation.  Agent 13 has gone into hiding in Madripoor, she mentions that her father doesn’t know she’s there.  At Sharon’s apartment in High Town, she has stolen goods from museums, she says brings up Sam giving up the shield.  This leads to Dr. Nagel (Olli Haaskivi) and the secret of the Super Soldier serum!  We see Agent 13 in action, the deadly trio in Latvia and another surprise cameo!  This episode of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier covers some high stakes action!

Godzilla vs. Kong Review!

Godzilla vs. Kong throws some awesome cinematic battles with some silly characters and plot points.  The film is currently at theaters an also streaming on HBO Max.  It is directed by Adam Wingard who also directed the adaptation of Death Note (2017) and the reboot of Blair Witch (2016).  The story has a trio of writers; Terry Rossio, who co-wrote The Lone Ranger (2013), Michael Dougherty, who also directed and co-wrote Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019), and Zach Shields, another co-writer on G: KotM.

The screenplay is by Eric Pearson, he wrote the screenplay for the upcoming Black Widow movie, and Max Borenstein who also wrote Godzilla (2014) and Kong: Skull Island (2017).  I’ve seen almost every Godzilla film, but only bits and pieces of the 1998 Godzilla otherwise known as Zilla.  In the Showa era, the two Kaiju first battled in King Kong vs. Godzilla (1963), but now the Kaiju get reverse billing.  This picks up from the last Monsterverse movie, Godzilla: King of the Monsters. We hear jungle sounds at the opening with a flock of pterosaurs flying above Skull Island.  Kong wakes up and yawns.

There is a strange song, “Over The Mountain, Across The Sea” by Bobbie Vinton, it is not clear if Kong is running the song in his head or if it is played around him.  The very distinctive part of Kong’s CG effect is when he scratches his back side, kinda funny.  Then, he bathes under a massive waterfall, an impressive effect. We find a young girl in the jungle, Jia (Kayle Hottle), she is Iwe, a Māori New Zealand people.  This is Hottle’s first role and she is adorable, the emotions can be read on her face.

Like Millicent Simmonds in A Quiet Place (2018), the actress is deaf, but so talented, I want to see more of these actresses. She runs into the jungle with her Kong toy, while Kong fashions a spear from a tree.  Jia holds up the Kong toy and then we get a closeup of her ear.  This shifts the sound design to her quiet world, incredible!, and it sets the film above other Kaiju movies.  Kudos to sound designers Erik Aadahl and Ethan Van Der Ryn!  Then, Kong roars and hurtles the spear at the sky, at this point I’m thinking this film is a must to see in theaters.  This shatters the crystal dome that has part of Kong’s enclosure.  We get now where Kong was during G:KotM.

This pulls out to the dome structure of the Kong Containment kept by Monarch, the Kaiju corporation set up in Godzilla, on Skull Island.  Dr. Ilene Andrews (Rebecca Hall) is monitoring the situation.  Hall was in the the fantasy, BFG (2016), adapting Roald Dahl’s book, and she was also in Iron Man 3 (2013).  She says that if Kong is taken out, then Godzilla will come after him because they are both alpha Titans (their term for Kaiju).  Jia runs up to Andrews and they start signing, I hope there is more movies with sign language.  She worries about Kong.

Then, we get the credits sequence which introduces the Hollow Earth explorations.  Hollow Earth it is a conspiracy theory that has been around since at least the 17th century, and notably a setting of Jules Verne’s novel Journey to the Center of the Earth.  It is a world that holds the secrets of the Titans, but kinda silly.  The other part is the line that can't be crossed seems to be aliens, Hollow Earth and Kaiju fine, but aliens?  They are a part of the G-films, aliens from Black Hole Planet 3, Kilaaks, and more.  We also a glimpse of Dr. Nathan Lind (Alexander Skarsgård) and his book, Hollow Earth.  Skarsgård plays Randall Flagg in The Stand series based on the Stephen King novel and also the action film, The Legend of Tarzan (2016).

The music is by Tom Holkenberg which is good, but not as memorable as Bear McCreary’s score in GotM which hinted at the old G-film themes.  Then, we hear the voice of podcaster, Bernie Hayes (Brian Tyree Henry), and his Titan Truth Podcast.  He is in the upcoming Eternals and also starred in Joker (2019), but the part gets wearisome with conspiracy theories.  I get Henry is supposed to have fun with the part, he babbles conspiracies, but there is no charm.  Basically it’s like Men in Black (1997), the crazy conspiracies are actually true, ok.

Bernie works for Apex Cybernetics, a new corporation for the Monsterverse, in Pensacola, Florida.  He is going to uncover the truth, boring, so a massive business doesn’t know that one of its employees is a podcaster?  Apex is an impossibly technological company that has military tech so it is a bit absurd.   We see the company commerical of Apex and its leader, Walter Simmons (Demián Bichir), he was in the horror movie, The Nun (2018).  His part is kinda predictable for Kaiju fans.  Bernie is able to download Apex data, really weak data security for the most advanced corporation, and finds some kind of shipment to Hong Kong, no spoilers here!

Bernie ends up seeing a hidden technology during an attack by Godzilla in a Titan Alert.  He is drawn to that technology.  At the rainy rooftop, Godzilla’s approach is seen by Ren Serizawa (Shun Oguri), he is mostly known for Japanese films like Lupin the 3rd (2014).  I imagine that he is related to Ken Watanabe’s character, Ishiro Serizawa, but it is not made clear in this movie.  Simmons evacuates him to a helicopter.  Godzilla stomps Pensacola, wouldn’t there be an investigation into Apex with an attack?  Then, we get Madison Russell (Millie Bobby Brown), at high school.

This is a return for the actress and character from GotM, but of course she is for playing Eleven in Stranger Things and also Enola Holmes.  Madison was the ally to Godzilla in the other movie, and here kinda.  At the refugee camp, Madison meets with her father, Dr. Mark Russell (Kyle Chandler).  He is also from the earlier G-film and is known for Super 8 (2011) and of course Friday Night Lights.  His role is mostly a cameo here and the family dynamic is not as strong as GotM.  Mark doesn’t like his daughter’s interest in the podcast and she teams up with Bernie and Josh (Julian Dennison), but they are all basically along for the ride.  Dennison is of course the kid, Russell, in Deadpool 2 (2018) and Ricky in Hunt for the Wilderpeople (2016).

They have their part to play in the Kaiju battle, but I was bored when they showed up.  Ren and Simmons bring on Nathan to help them find the Hollow Earth.  He explains that there was a “gravitational inversion”, a reverse gravity that finished his brother’s expedition to the Hollow Earth.  Simmons explains that he developed a vehicle, Hollow Earth Aerial Vehicle (H.E.A.V.) that can enter the Hollow Earth.  Usually such vehicles are called Super X in G-films.  Nathan theorizes that the Hollow Earth is the home of the Titans and that they will need a Titan to guide them to it.

Nathan goes to the Kong facility to convince Ilene to get Kong to help them.  So Kong is taken by ship to Antarctica, Nathan and Ilene are joined by Maya Simmons (Eiza González).  She played KT in the comic book adaptation, Bloodshot (2020).  Maya keeps referring to Kong as a "monkey", but of course they have tails, he would be better described as an ape.  Her character is also G-film predictable.  Also, where is Mothra in all of this?  This is where the battles begin!  The fights are fantastic, a step up for Kaiju films, and the effects are an improvement over the Showa battle.  Godzilla vs. Kong has some great battles between two Titans (Kaiju) and a few interesting characters.
