Happy Birthday Summer Glau!

Happy Birthday Summer Glau!  She started out as a ballerina and played Prima Ballerina in the “Waiting in the Wings” (2002) episode of Angel.  Then, River Tam was Summer Glau's iconic role on Firefly (2002-2003), the sci fi western created by Joss Whedon.  She played a brilliant, though traumatized young woman experimented on by the Alliance. Glau returned as River Tam in the Serenity (2005) film.  We discovered the reason for the Alliance experiments on River. Glau then played Tess Doerner in The 4400 (2005-2007).  Her next role was as Cameron Phillips, a Terminator sent to protect John Connor, in Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles (2008-2009).

Shadowzone: In the Realm of the Kiv Volume 1 Review!

Shadowzone: In the Realm of the Kiv Volume 1 builds a beautiful fantasy world with a darkness threatening two royal daughters.  In 2019, there was a Kickstarter campaign to launch the Shadowzone graphic novel.  It is self-published by odagawa.com Art and you can order a copy from that website.  The cover is by creator, Ryan Odagawa, and Siya Oum.   The widescreen image features the pink-haired, young sister, Corina, and her older sister, Kandora next to butterflies, a lake, and hills with waterfalls.  Odagawa provides the illustration and concept.  He worked on Savant Garde for Wildstorm Productions and also Iron Man #53 (2002) for Marvel Comics.   Barbara Randall Kesel wrote the story of the graphic novel. Kesel wrote comics for many companies including Savant Garde and Marvel Snapshots Avengers #1 (2021).  Side note: I do know personally Ryan Odagawa.

The opening pages has a beautiful sunset and the land with a city below a pink-flowered tree on the left and the hills with waterfalls on the right.  The 11 x 7.5” landscape printing captures a cinematic quality to the pages.  This pans to the right as we see a river and a dam, a narrator explains about his sister, Kandora. Also, that it is spring and the Monk Anon has arrived to bring news.  His dialogue leads us to the right as he tells of his vision of an unknown child and the “tragedy” that followed.  Monk Anon also tells a group of three about the awakening of the Kiv.  One is a tall man with dreads and next to him is a short, bearded man in the dress of a blacksmith.  The clothing and characters look medieval and also ancient Asia like Avatar: The Last Airbender.  The woman, Taira, volunteers to check on the king and queen of Baydera.  Anon has seen that she does so and that she needs to return to their camp with a “gift.”  Another panning shot from the waterfalls to the city of Baydera where citizens are celebrating the Festival of the Fates.

The narrator says that it is a celebration of the third child of the king and queen, then we get the royal palace.  Kandora watches out of a window.  King Evero is practicing fencing with his son, Ryder, but is distracted by Kandora.  The queen tells him to watch over their twin children.  Kandora has spotted Irek, a dark-haired man riding a curved-horned mount.  Finally, King Evero sends his children out to the festival.  Ryder and Kandora pass a renactment of the Kiv, glowing-eyed beasts, that the speaker says requires training in body and mind.  Kandora has Ryder go with her to follow Irek.  In the mines, we get a closeup of Irek’s fist shattering crystals.  He wants the mercenary, Rasha, to be patient.  At the mouth of the cave is Kandora and Ryder as a shaft of light illuminates Irek and Rasha.  The two men get into an argument, Irek’s eyes glow, and then takes a large piece of crystal to slash Rasha.  This causes a cave-in, Irek hears Kandora call out Ryder’s name and then a dark Kiv appears.  Kandora blames herself for her twin’s death and her eyes glow.  At Baydera, Queen Elyn gives birth to a pink-haired baby girl.  One girl is a child of hope and the other has fallen to despair.  Shadowzone: In the Realm of the Kiv Volume 1 has an excellent setup of an original, fantasy world with Kandora and her baby sister that may save Baydera!

Happy Birthday Kristen Bell!

Happy Birthday Kristen Bell!  Kristen had the iconic role of Veronica Mars (2004-2007), clever show created by Rob Thomas.  Next, she had the lead role in the comedy Forgetting Sarah Marshall (2008).  I actually took notice of Kirsten in the show Heroes (2007-2008) playing Elle Bishop with electrical powers.  She played Zoe in the Fanboys (2009) film.  Bell voiced Cora in the animated movie, Astro Boy (2009). She returned as Sarah Marshall in Get Him to the Greek (2010).  Bell joined the musical Burlesque (2010) as Nikki.  Then, she was in the horror film, Scream 4 (2011), as Chloe.  Bell then starred in Colin Trevorrow’s debut film, Safety Not Guaranteed (2012). Then, Kristen Bell had another iconic role voicing Anna in the animated film, Frozen (2013). The klutzy, but spunky princess who could sing a duo with Idina Menzel charmed almost everyone.

She also returned as Veronica Mars in the 2014 film that was crowd funded.  Bell returned to voice Anna in the Frozen Fever (2015) short that ran before the Cinderella live action movie.  She followed that short up voicing Priscilla, the sloth workers at the DMV, in Zootopia (2016) animated film. Re:tro Re:view - Star Trek: Lower Decks!

Star Trek: Lower Decks is an animated comedy show with goofy workers that keep Starfleet in ship shape!  The show was created by Mike McMahon who wrote, produced, and was showrunner for Rick and Morty’s fourth season.  McMahon also wrote the pilot, "Second Contact", and last episodes of two seasons.  Star Trek: Lower Decks premiered on August 2020 on the former CBS All Access that became Paramount+.  The third season is about to debut on Paramount+ on August 25th.  It is the third Star Trek series on the network after the live action series; Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: Picard.  This is of course, the second Trek cartoon show, with Star Trek: The Animated Series (1973-1974).  Plus, there was a Star Trek: The Next Generation epsiode that featured ensigns, “Lower Decks” (1994).  The series takes place in the same time period as STNG, the 24th century.

"Second Contact" and the series begins with a star field until we get the Douglas Station, the same Spacedock-type that held the Enterprise for repairs.  There we get the U.S.S. Cerritos, the same of the ship makes me laugh, a California-class light support cruiser.  It has the saucer main hull and two long, warp nacelles.  The ship is re-supplying before heading to Galadan.  We get the heroic starlog as we see the bridge command personnel.  The character animation is cartoony, so we get a license to go crazy apart from the computer animation.  Actually, the Cerritos is responsible for second contact.  The narration actually the log of Ensign Brad Boimler voiced by Jack Quaid.  There is another lead role played by Quaid, Hughie Campbell, in The Boys.  Boimler is a nervous guy with characteristic unruly, purple hair.

He is found giving the log in a supply closet.  Boimler struggles to keep his log away from Ensign Beckett Mariner voiced by Tawny Newsome.  The actress is also in the comedy series, Space Force, as Captain Angela Ali.  Beckett has a red headband and sometimes her uniform is open to her white shirt.  They both have the red command uniforms.  She is drunk on Romulan whisky and also takes out a Klingon bat’leth from her box of contraband.  Mariner swings it around, her pretend Klingon voice is funny, until she ends up slicing it into Boimler’s leg!  The title sequence is a great send up of the Trek series epic music mixed with galactic visuals of space travel and the lead starship. A shuttle enters the Cerritos docking bay, the new personnel exit, including Ensign D’Vana Tendi.

Noël Wells voices Tendi and also Kelsey in the animated show, Craig of the Creek.  She is an excited science ensign, an Orion, with freckles and her green hair parted to the side.   Tendi reports in and is assigned to Deck 79, Lower Decks.  Hot bananas(!) are ejected from the replicator, as Boimler works on it and Beckett stands around.  Tendi reports in to Boimler as her orientation liasion.  Mariner cuts in to take over, clarifies that they are “commanders in training”, and describes Lower Decks as the “scrappy underdogs of the ship”!  This is the show’s concept in a few lines. Beckett doesn’t like senior officers.  They go to take Tendi on a tour of the ship.  The trio meets up with Ensign Sam Rutherford (Eugene Cordero) who has a cybernetic implant on the left side of his face.  Cordero has been on many animated and genre shows like Loki (2021).  He is the last of our crew.

Boimler explains that he is an engineer and was just enhanced.  Mariner notes his date with Ensign Barnes and activates his nervous mode!  Boimler takes her to the bunks that are in a hall!  Tendi rushes to see the viewscreen showing the nacelles warping through space.  Mariner verbally trips up Boimler to take Tendi to the holodeck.  Vendi shifts it from a beach to Orion. Boimler is excited to see the ship’s warp core.  Boimler has to report to the bridge which Mariner explains is to clean up a spill!  Then, she switches the Holodeck to her “all nude training program”!  The show can give some adult humor!  On the planet, Galardordon, the inhabitants are short, pink or purple-skinned with pig-like faces and horns.  The leader of the away team, the square-jawed Commander Jack Ransom (Jerry O’Connell) who tells the chancellor that there will be construction teams sent down.  O’Connell has several voice roles including the lead in The Death and Return of Superman (2019).

He swats an insect that bit his neck and then beams up the team.  Lt. Cmdr. Steve Stevens (Ben Rodgers), Ransom’s biggest fan, asks if the bite should be checked by medical.  They make plans to get beers later.  Boimler is nervous in the turbolift when the doors open to the bridge.  Ransom asks why he is not at his post when he is interrupted by the captain.  This Captain Carol Freeman voiced by Dawnn Lewis who has many voice roles including The Simpsons.  She orders Boimler to her quarters to go over his service record.  We also see the purplish sore on Ransom’s neck!  Freeman orders Boimler to closely watch Mariner!  Rutherford has his date with Barnes and his cyborg implant malfunctions.  Boimler joins the away team with Mariner.  While Rutherford is chatting at the lounge, Ransom at the bar is seized by zombie-like reaction to the bite, and bites other crew members!  During the chaos and the battle, Rutherford and Barnes continue their date.

Boimler is watching as Mariner drives away in an Argo-vehicle carrying a crate.   Tendi reports to medical and sees the black fluids of the infected as Dr. T’Ana (Gillian Vigman) struggles with a patient.  She has the doctor’s coat and is Caitian, the cat-like alien introduced with M’Ress in TAS, and T’Ana’s whiskers are frizzled.  Tendi tries to restrain a patient, Nurse Westlake, who vomits black fluid on her! Mariner is meeting with two Galardonians when Boimler leaps out to accuse her.  He suspects she is selling Federation weapons to them.  Boimler goes on a rant firing a phaser to stop the aliens.  Mariner explains that the crate has farm equipment.  The Galardonians escape into a tunnel.  A giant, spider-like creature charges after the Cerritos crew members from the tunnel!  Mariner turns out to be an effective fighter and knowledgeable, but decided to stay away from the rigor of higher rank.  The humor is hilarious, yet the show is a loving nod to the classic tropes of Star Trek from all of the series!  A ship-wide crisis!, a dangerous creature on the planet, and the Lower Decks crew are there to keep the ship running and work together!

Re:tro Re:view - Turok: Son of Stone!

Turok: Son of Stone (2008)  The supervising director is Tad Stones along with Dan Riba, Curt Gadea, and Frank Squillace who directed the different sequences of the film.  The screenplay is by Tony Bedard who also wrote the Valiant comic, Turok, Dinosaur Hunter #17-19 (1994).  Turok started in Four Color Comics #596 (1954) created by Gaylord Du Bois.  It evenutally led to his own series, with Turok: Son of Stone #3 (1956), which featured painted covers that had Turok using his deadly bow against dinosaurs and others creatures.  He appeared in the Valiant Universe during the “Unity” company wide crossover in 1992.  The powerful Mothergod, she had a base in Turok’s Lost Land, was about to transform the Valiant Universe.  She brought him and the bionisaurs into the modern world.  He entered the Valiant Universe with the introduction of his series Turok, Dinosaur Hunter #1 (1993).

It opens with beautiful mountains in the background and forests of pine.  We see a Native American tribe of people playfully running.  A young girl, Catori (Iyari Limon) races away from Nashoba (Matthew Yang King). Her hairclip falls into the river. Nashoba’s brother, Turok (Rick Mora), with the blue vest jumps in with Nashoba behind him.  They swim after it, but end up splashing water on each other as a rival chief (with red hand print on his right chest) picks up the hair clip.  Catori reaches the river bank.  The chief throws his tomahawk, but Turok catches it.   He sends his other warriors to attack them.  Turok is struck and lapses into a berserk state of just white as he makes bloody slashes with the tomahawk.  This is a truly bloody and violent animated movie so this is for older teens and adults.  Nashoba tries to check on Turok who is still in the rage state.  He is slashed across the chest and his face until Turok shakes off his anger and sees what he has done.

Later, Nashoba screams trying to recover from his stiched chest wound.  The tribe’s elder (Graham Greene) argues for Turok.  The shaman (Russell Means) can only see blood in Turok’s future and exiles him!  It is “16 years later”, a young brave, this is Andar (Adam Gifford) runs with bow, quiver, and knife.  Gifford voices Zuma in DC Showcase: Kamandi: The Last Boy on Earth! (2021). He sees an older Turok (Adam Beach) skin an animal by the fire.  Beach is in the drama, The Power of the Dog (2021).  Andar explains that he is son of Nashoba, now chief, and they will need his help against a war party.  He returns to his father (Gil Birmingham) and mother, Catori (Irene Bedard).  The actress returned to voice Pocahontas in Ralph Breaks the Internet (2018).  Nashoba gives him the blue marks of a warrior on his face.  Catori gives her hair pin to her husband.  In the mist, the warriors, move against the rival tribe led by Chichak (Robert Knepper) on his horse. Knepper is in the action horror movie WarHunt (2022).

It is a vicious conflict betwen Nashoba’s tribe armed with bows against Chichak’s warriors using rifles.  Andar takes cover and starts to run from the slaughter. Chichak is about to kill him with a pistol, but his father saves him.  Then, he is shot by Chichak!   Andar and Turok see Nashoba bound to a tree bleeding, he wakes up gasping, and Turok cuts him free.  Nashoba says that Chichak is headed to the village to kill all of the tribe.  Turok vows to protect Catori and Andar.  The hair pin falls out of his dying hand.  Turok heads to the village and Andar follows.  Chichak has the village burned, Catori runs, and is taken by the vicious chief.  Turok appears and has the tomahawk which Chicak recognizes as used by his father.  He cuts down two warriors and faces Chicak who draws his rifle.  Andar knocks him down from the path of the bullet.  Chichak rides away with Catori.  Turok follows them on another horse.

In a canyon, the horse rears and throws off Chichak and Catori.  Chichak holds a knife to Catori.  A prehistoric Terror Bird leaps and Turok pulls Andar away from it.  Turok slashes it with the tomahawk, then Andar puts an arrow into its side, Catori tries to warn her son, but is knocked out by Chichak and dragged into the cave.  Turok slashes the monstrous bird with his tomahawk and then Andar drives it away with an arrow to its eye!  They run into the cave and then find light from two openings like eyes.  Turok immediately races across the grassland, Andar follows, but is stopped by Turok’s gesture.  Andar lays on the ground to hear what he says is a herd.  It is of course not buffalo, but Anklyosaurs!  A volcano is in the distance. This is the Lost Land!  The pace of the battle and the chase just throws the viewer into the action even through a prehistoric world!  Turok picks up traces of Chichak and follows his trail, it leads through the herd’s path, and suddenly one rears sending them into a stampede!

He takes Andar up to an rocky overlook.  They see Catori running from Chichak on horseback to the woods.  Out from it comes the Carnotaurus!  The horned, vicious Dino with a black hide with red patches on its head.  Chichak flees on his horse, Catori is tossed aside by the Carnotaurus, Turok sees this and leaps into the stampede!  The Carnotaurus looms over Catori and tries to chomp her.  The Anklosaur herd tries to turn, but needs up in a pile up!  Turok continues, Catori is about to be snapped up, but he leaps to pull her out of its way!  Andar looses two arrows at it and then Turok points out a fallen tree trunk over a river.  They manage to enter the trunk as the Carnotaurus plows its head into it!  The trio manage to cross over to the other side.  The Carnotaurus regards the tree and tries to cross, but is swept into the river.   They manage to escape the Carnotaurus and end up using a log to make a journey down a river filled with strange wildlife.  Turok believes it is the underworld.  They start swimming with the log when a Pleisosaurus attacks them!

Turok uses his tomahawk on the the wounded Plesiosaur and it is torn away by a larger Tylosaurus,“there’s always a bigger fish.”  Still, screeching is heard and Terror Birds emerge with warriors using them as mounts.  Chichak has reached a network of caves.  He finds savage Neanderthals consuming his horse!  A bestial leader with horned headdress challenges him.  Still, he falls to Chichak’s rifle!  The tribe makes him leader.  A Terror Bird mount takes the warrior girl, Aniwa (Mia Crowe), goes into a cave to tell about the srangers.  Turok, Catori and Andar are taken by guards to the leader of the Cliff People (Cree Summer).  The warrior, Koba (Jay Tavore), reports to Septino that the stranger, Turok, killed a Long Neck!  Turok introduces them and Koba wonders if they came from the Land of the Fathers.  Turok’s savagery has kept them alive, but followed him into the Lost Land.  He has to control his violence even to deal with Chichak so they can find their place in this new world.  It features an incredible Native American voice cast.  Turok: Son of Stone is a violent, animated movie that has Native American warriors trapped in a prehistoric world straight out of the comics!

Ms. Marvel, “No Normal”, Review!

The Ms. Marvel finale, "No Normal", manages to turn Kamala Khan to a full superhero without the dramatic parts of her family and identity.  A re:run of the conclusion of “Time and Again”: Kamala has returned to Pakistan, she discovers an ally in Kareem, part of the Red Daggers.  The ClanDestine led by Najima has found her, she strikes Kamala's bangle, and opens the Veil!  It is about to go out of control, pulsing different colors, Kamala forms a crystal wall so Kareem can evacuate the people.  Najima is about to enter the Veil and Kamala tells her that she has Kamran.  She had killed Kamala’s great grandmother, Aisha, and says that she can close the Veil!  Najima says Kamran’s name, her eyes glow purple, she is crystallized and crumbles with her skeleton!  Kamala forms a shield to protect Kareem and herself.

The Veil’s energy weaves around an alley and strikes Kamran whose eyes glow green!  It closes, they are seen by Muneeba and Nani, and Kareem greets the women before running off.  Muneeba is surprised that her daughter is Light Girl. Kamala shows her grandmother the black and white photo of her parents, Aisha and Hasan.  Their story is dramatic, but they are not the central characters of the series.  I think the creators were too in love with Aisha and Hasan to shorten their story, but if needed, this could be saved for a later point in another season or a bonus feature.  There is just no way that Kamala or any other character would know about their meeting so this is just for viewers.  Kamala leaves them for a moment to say goodbye to Kareem.  He tells her that she can call him as needed.

Muneeba holds up Kamala’s broken necklace which makes a “S.”  Later, Nani shows Kamala a photo album, love the shocked look in Kamala’s eyes recognizing that it is her mother at her age.  Nani says that Muneeba ran away at 17 to go to a Bon Jovi concert.  All of the Khan women apologize and they hug which is a nice moment.  We go back to the Circle Q at night, Bruno is taking out the trash and is startled by Kareem.  At Bruno’s apartment, Kareem is a bit awkward, and then tries to re-introduce himself.  Then, he realizes that his name is not Brian, but Bruno.  Kareem sees the Damage Control drone outside of the window and then uses his new power to blast it!  It sends out a rocket that blows up the Circle Q!  So a government agency is authorized to use live artillery rounds on a civilian business?

This brings us to the season’s finale, “No Normal”, we see the police tape, ambulance, and Agent Deever talking about kids with powers.  She orders non-lethal, enhanced rounds, is this like the I.C.E.R. (Incapacitating Cartridge Emitting Rifle) in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.? (I think of them as a G.I. Joe cartoon guns), later the rifles do glow blue like AoS.  Bruno and Kamran are taking the train, Kamran grips a pole, and his hand turns to crystal.  His powers work slightly different than Kamala’s powers, but the crytal looks the same.   Bruno supports him so Kamran was apparently injured in the explosion.  He sees Damage Control agents, runs into a passenger, who pushes Kamran and he sends out a crystal pillar out of the train window.  Then, he projets a small wall which the agents dodge around, Kamran could have sealed off that part of the train.

At the Khan house, we have Muneeba handing out gifts from Pakistan.  Unusual, that there is no pickup or greeting at the airport.  Kamala says she has an announcement.  She apologizes for not saying this earlier, ending the wedding, and sneaking out to Avengercon.  Muneeba has her hurry up and Kamala says she is Light Girl.  Her brother, Aamir, and father, Yusuf, pretend to be shocked, but everyone knows.  Aamir and his new bride, Tyeesha, joke about her powers.   Yusuf is worried about her being in danger.  Muneeba smiles and says she trusts her daughter.  So everything that was set up, the conflict of a strict family, her identity, is just all dropped because Kamala is a superhero.  If this was the direction of the show, it should have at least started in episode three.

Kamala takes her brother's cell phone and Nakia asks Kamala about Bruno since the explosion.  Kamala’s secret is important, of course, but ignoring an explosion in their neighborhood?  She tries to call Bruno in her room, when Muneeba brings her something in a toffee box.  This is her Ms. Marvel uniform!  Kinda cool that she gets it from her mother, this is similar to Superman in Lois & Clark, but when did Muneeba have the time to design and pick up the costume in Pakistan?  Kamala races across the city on her crystal ramps, every person watches her overhead, and she manages to stop at a stop light, that part is funny.  Bruno brings Kamran into the mosque and they are met by Nakia.  She says the mosque is under surveillance so they should go to the high school.  Agent Deever enters the mosque, no warrant, and asks everyone to see I.D.s which they take out before she can say it!

She gives the description of the suspect, a woman says that could apply to almost everyone, funny. Deever and other agents check rooms, Nakia tries to stop her, and then admits that her boyfriend is inside.  A guy with headphones is inside and is happy that Nakia said he is her boyfriend.  The duo emerge from a side room with advice from Sheikh Abdullah.  They hide in an alley as Kamala crystal leaps down to them.  Kamrun suddenly unleashes his power, waves of force radiated from him as he screams.  This is around the corner from the mosque, yet the Damage Control agents don’t flood the area and what happened to the drones?  It is now night, they are on the run, when Kamala makes a call to Kareem for help.  Kareem says he can help Kamran escape if they can reach the harbor by midnight.

Bruno opens the unlocked window to the bathroom, the school is very unsafe, and then they meet with Nakia.  She was frustrated that Kamala kept the secret from her, but Kamala apologizes, and then everything is alright.  The dramatic tension is just cut in favor of action.  Bruno warns them about Damage Control have arrived at the school so Kamala uses her crystal platforms to escape with Kamran right?  Then Zoe walks up, she has already figured out Kamala’s secret identity even though this was not worked out in the second episode.  Zoe says she owes Kamala for saving her life.  Kamala has a plan on a chalkboard, a police officer tries to ask Agent Deever if she is authorized for attacking a public school, ok, and Aamir startles Kamala.  He explains that he knows how to sneak in to his old school and their mother sent him.

Kamran and Zoe take similar hoodies from lockers (which are all open?).  Bruno and Kamala use the chemistry room which is unlocked so students can make dangerous experiments.  They start taking fire extinguishers, Zoe breaks into a case, ignoring the chain and bar on the side, silly Zoe.  All of this happens while Damage Control patiently waits outside.  The situation is so teen comedy that it is difficult to see anyone in danger.  Agent Cleary is concerned about the school siege, but Agent Deever says it is two “enhanced individuals.”  She says they are causing destruction, but the Circle Q explosion is ok?  He tells her to evacuate and she ignores his order.  So the Damage Control take authority from only one person?  This is just absurd.  Kamala updates Bruno on the death of Najima instead of telling Kamran.   Bruno tells her not to tell Kamran.

Damage Control agents set explosives on the school door to breach it and none of the school officials are informed?  Explosives and entering a school with rifles?  This is too topical at this time.  The agents come across a device that they think is a bomb, but it is really a speaker playing Urdu music complete with a disco ball, ha ha I guess.  Kamran greets the agents from the second floor.  Then, Bruno has Zoe go on TikTok.  All of her followers, most of the characters we have seen all head to the school, and apparently the media is not interested in a government assault on a school.  The onsite Team Leader reports Kamran’s description with the red hoodie and baseball cap.  So the agents are confused because all of the friends have the same clothes and use fire extinguishers for some reason.  Agents activate a trip wire at the chemistry lab which sends out an expanding white goo that falls on agents like in Ghostbusters (1984).

Kamala and Kamran hide behind a desk and neither have used their powers in the hijinks.  They are about to kiss, but Bruno interrupts them and then provides a distraction dancing until agents violently restrain him.  Zoe rides a bike through the gym and then jumps over their softball pitching machines.  They are used by Zoe, Aamir, and Nakia, but agents arrest them.  Kamala and Kamran are walking to the bathroom, again, and Kamran asks about his mother.  An agent breaks through the window, doesn’t make sense, but ok, and Kamran batters him with his power.  Kamran starts to run, Kamala tells him that his mother is dead, but she apologizes.  They are cornered, but Kamran uses his power to slam lockers down on agents.  Kamala slams him back with her crystal fist and he runs off.  Outside, the crowd is taking video while the police hold them back.

The others are sitting in the back of a van.  Kamran explodes a door to have the agents target him.  Agent Deever has a bullhorn to tell him to get down.  Kamran’s eyes glow and then Deever gives the order to fire.  What is the hostile act and why attack a teenager?  Kamala leaps down from a window and forms a crystal shield to deflect the gunfire.  Deever orders a ceasefire and then brings out a Stark Sonic Cannon, why the escalation?  It shatters Kamala’s shield.  Everyone is stunned especially since discharging such a weapon could injure all of the bystanders.  Kamala says, “Embiggen” to go giant size and smash the Damage Control trucks.  She throws a crystal shield Captain America-style to knock down agents.  Kamran fights other agents with powers and his fighting skill, probably learned from Clandestine.

Agent Deever is about to shoot him, but he bashes a truck at her, and it is about to fly into the crowd!  Of course, it is caught by Kamala’s crystal hands.  Deever picks up her gun, the police are ok with her shooting a teenager?, and Kamran bursts out with his power.  Crystals emerge from everywhere and even threatens the people in the van.  It’s a CGi fest.  Still, Kamala forms a crystal dome around them.  Kamran thinks that he has done so much and Kamala says his mother wanted him to be in this world.  She uses her crystal fist to punch a way for him to slip away. Deever orders her agents to get her.  This is really an unethical order, but the agents are really mindless.  Instead, the crowd surrounds her, protecting her like the people on the train in Spider-Man 2 (2004).  Then, the police form a line barricading Damage Control.

Kamala runs above them on her crystal steps and the crowd cheers.  Agent Cleary calls Deever and says she’s “relieved of duty”, all of the agents should be arrested for endangering a community, property damage (which the comic book team was trying to fix), and threatening minors.  We see the TikToks of people excited to be there including G. Willow Wilson, the writer of Ms. Marvel. Kamala watches on her phone including Sheikh Abdullah saying they have their own superhero.  Kamala goes to the rooftop and is joined by her father.  We see glimpses of all of the characters the next day picking up their lives and Kamran goes to see Kareem.  Yusuf tells his daughter that they had tried to have another child, Kamala arrived, and he says she is perfect like her name in Arabic. He continues that her name in Urdu is “marvel” and dubs her Ms. Marvel, nice.

Kamala has a scene that is similar to the show's poster.  Then, we get “One week later”, Bruno drives up with Kamran’s car.  Bruno says that he made a discovery of her genetics, I can see Shuri with access to technology, but Bruno is an orphan teenager in a suburban city who had lived above a Circle Q.  We get a little synthesizer with the hint of the X-Men: The Animated Series theme.  So this is a standard superhero drop that is just to tease viewers that has nothing to do with the comics.  Ok.  Nakia is in the driver's seat and tells them they are headed out for sharwarma like the end of Avengers (2012).  The mid-credits scene that ties into The Marvels.  So there is so much potential with the cast especially Iman Vellani.  For some reason, it lapsed into a standard superhero show this episode.  Ms. Marvel, “No Normal”, has great potential with the main character, still the finale needs to be honest like the rest of series.
