Stranger Things #4 Review!

Will Byers time is almost finished in the Upside Down!  This issue’s cover is by Aleksi Briclot which has Will with the Alien-like attachment to his mouth, Joyce in a decontamination suit, and Castle Byers while Hooper in his suit is examine a very Alien-like egg.  The story continues by Jody Houser with art by Stefano Martino.  We pick up with Will running in the forest of the Upside Down while the Demogorgon feeds.  It shifts to Will’s wizard character in a forest of thorny vines with a castle in the distance.  He approaches it and finds the Castle Byers above its gate.  He sees a light calling out his name.  We see in a splash page that it is Eleven checking on Will’s wizard.  This is in “Chapter Seven: The Bathtub” where she is in the sensory deprivation tank to find Will.  Eleven tells Will his mother is looking for him.  He shifts back to his boy form in the counterpart of the real world Castle Byers, the fort he made with his brother.  Eleven is gone and Will tries to keep his hope going singing The Clash’s “Should I Stay or Should I Go.”  This has the Demogorgon closing in on him from the trees.

In a splash page, we get the fantasy world of the Demogorgon and Will the Wise.  It’s two-headed form and body reminds me of the Dungeons & Dragon’s Demogorgon, nice!, but it does have the petal-like faces.  Will flashes back to a library talking to Mike about reading Stephen King’s The Dark Tower for campaign ideas.  He mentions that his mother will allow the book.  Will wakes up in the Upside Down with the strange attachment to his mouth.  He sees a nightmarish vision of victims and then a splash page of the Cthulhu-like creature we saw in season 2.  In the suits, his mother and Hopper help free Will, from the Upside Down.  In the hospital, he sees his friends who update him on what happened, seen in “Chapter Eight: The Upside Down”, Will turns a sees a vision of the Upside Down.  It does not have the scene where he vomits a slug form of the Demogorgon like Dart.  This is really informative about Will’s time in the Upside Down.  We get some looks at things we have never seen and a clearer depiction of the Upside Down.  There is potential for more comic books, Season 2 and 3, so we will have to see if there are more on the way!
