Obi-Wan Kenobi ramps up the conflict with Reva and we get the Path base in trouble similar to Empire Strikes Back! Part III Re:run: Leia watches as Obi-Wan takes on the Stormtroopers in a Fortress Inquisitorius corridor. Obi-Wan deflects a blaster bolt to hit a control panel sealing off Stormtroopers. Leia warns Obi-Wan about the window crack getting larger. He uses the Force to hold the incredible pressure of the sea. Tala runs in as the Stormtroopers push open the door. He has Tala run away with Leia. The crack fills up the entire window, water starts slowly leaking in. The Purge trooper begins firing on him, but Obi-Wan deflects the blasts with his lightsaber and tries to hold back the sea. The door is fully retracted and the troopers enter! Just as the sea breaks in and Obi-Wan has to run ahead of it, use the Force Obi-Wan!, and Force speed out of there.
Tala starts the door to close, as Obi-Wan makes it, and the sea fills the corridor! She gives Obi-Wan an officer’s uniform as we see the floating bodies of the Stormtroopers! At the hangar, Obi-Wan uses the old Totem Pole Trench trick hiding Leia underneath a long coat. Fifth Brother wants the base closed. Tala says they are almost there when Reva screams, “A traitor!” She is angry at Tala says, “This was never who I was”, great dialogue. The Stormtroopers bring up their blasters! Then, two airspeeders come in blasting the Stormtroopers! An airspeeder comes to a landing, it is Sully, Third Sister is racing towards them. Then, Wade in his airspeeder fires on her at point blank range, apparently she doesn’t know the Shien technique of deflecting blaster fire back. Fifth Brother runs up and says to destroy them. Reva lifts up a cargo container with the Force which sends Wade’s airspeeder in a fiery plunge to the sea.
Darth Vader walks into the control room and sends Reva hurtling back with a Force choke. She is just able to tell Vader that she has a tracker on the ship, this is right out of the Death Star escape! The airspeeder moves through Nur’s clouds and lands on a cargo ship that takes them away. Roken greets them, but Sully has to tell them that Wade didn’t make it. Tala brings Sully a drink. Leia touches Obi-Wan’s hand. Next to Leia is LO-LA59 with a red light, the tracker! Part V begins with a startling opening, we have the cityscape of Coruscant, Anakin with his Padawan braid is looking out as Obi-Wan joins him! To see the bright sky brings the hopeful feeling of the Prequels, an almost innocent time, compared with the darkness of the Age of Rebellion era. They ready themselves for a practice lightsaber duel, this is the best scene since the Prequels! Anakin and Obi-Wan circle in an overhead shot. This scene alone makes Hayden Christensen necessary for this series!
Then, we get a closeup of Vader, he is on the bridge of his flagship, the Devastator. If this is Vader reflecting on his days as Anakin, then this was all purged from him by the Emperor in the canon novel, Lords of the Sith (2015), that happened before this show. “There is no conflict.” A captain announces the arrival of Reva and she reports that Obi-Wan is on Jabiim. Vader has her kneel and dubs her Grand Inquisitor! The cargo ship heads to Jabiim and lands through a circular hatch. There is a waiting crowd. Roken announces that the mission was a success. Tala goes to see NED-B and Obi-Wan sees Haja! He is there because Haja is now on the wanted list. Obi-Wan tells Roken that he needs to get Leia back to Alderaan, but he says the refugees need to be transported to safety. The crowd is made up of the passengers so maybe they survive? Vader watches the blue of hyperspace, it kinda looks like the time vortex in Doctor Who.
Reva says they will be arriving to Jabiim, Vader wants to lock down their space port. Lola slips out of Leia’s cloak and floats to an access panel to a series of wires. Music is tense. You know this all coming since there are few Jedi survivors! Roken should have prepared for a fall back plan. Obi-Wan sees markings on a cave wall and reads, “The light will fade, but is never forgotten.” There is a chest of several lightsabers. Lola starts cutting several wires. The access port closes. Roken says that there is a Star Destroyer above them. We flashback to the lightsaber duel! Obi-Wan says his apprentice is too aggressive. Then, we see Vader’s reflection on the window with Jabiim. Vader orders the attack and two Imperial transports fly from the Star Destroyer’s launch bay. Obi-Wan tells everyone that they will not survive a direct attack and just delay until an evacuation can be made. NED drops a large metal pylon on a door to be welded by a new droid with a rook-like body and green head.
The landers descend and two Purge troopers and a number of Stormtroopers line up with a blaster cannon. The Scythe appears and begins to land. The Stormtroopers make a path for the Grand Inquisitor who orders the cannon to fire! Roken tries to open the hangar door, but it fails. Haja suggests going in a vent to see what is blocking the door. Leia volunteers and says she will need a ladder. Obi-Wan backs her up. He wants Haja to watch over her and gets a signal from his imagecaster. Leia has reached the access port and begins digging through the wires, Lola! In a private room, Obi-Wan watches Bail worried about communication and says he will head to Tatooine to help Owen with Luke! Tala enters and begins talking about her mission on Garel, an Outer Rim world in the Lothal sector, it appeared in the Star Wars: Rebels episode, “Droids in Distress” (2014). She was told it was for unpaid taxes, but found out that they brought out four Force-sensitive families.
Then, the Inquisitors arrived and the families did not survive. Tala shows him the marks on her gun holster for every person that she has helped. Roken has them check out the slow breaching of the door, he carries a bowcaster! Obi-Wan wants to start negotiations with the Inquisitor. A Purge trooper tells her of the message. Reva and Obi-Wan walk up to the door, Roken’s people have their blasters ready, the same with the Stormtroopers. Obi-Wan places his hand on the door and concentrates. She says stalling won’t work, Obi-Wan wonders how she knew Vader was Anakin, he comes to the realization that she was there. One of the Jedi younglings who was trying to escape! Reva doesn’t want him speaking about the past. Flashback to the young Reva (Ayaamii Sledge), terrified, as she watches Vader cut down her fellow younglings! We only saw a hint of Vader threatening the younglings, here you see the lightsaber swings!
She hid amongst the bodies until they left. Reva says she was too weak, so this is a get stronger to fight the bully at any cost. This is an important episode in we see two survivors, Tala, helpless to stop the killing of families, tries to find redemption, in contrast there is Reva, who takes her trauma and inflicts it on others. He knows that she is actually hunting Vader and suggests teaming up. She blames him for not stopping his former Padawan and says she will end Vader on her own. Her lightsaber blade cuts through the door! Obi-Wan knocks her back through the line of Stormtroopers with a Force push! Obi-Wan orders everyone to retreat. The Grand Inquisitor orders the Stormtroopers to advance under heavy fire. I’m surprised that NED has a blaster. Obi-Wan cuts down a Purge trooper with his lightsaber. He then covers the retreat into the caves. Haja wants Leia to finish worried about the battle.
In the cave passage, NED holds off the Stormtrooper with Tala. A Stormtrooper tries to get back NED who slams him against the roof! Then, Tala is shot and falls! NED is blasted and then tries to protect her with his body. Tala tells Obi-Wan to go, the door console is hit and the door is sealed on Obi-Wan as Tala holds up a thermal detonator. She activates it as Reva has her troops fall back. An explosion! Very emotional for Star Wars. Obi-Wan failed to save Reva (he was on Utapau at the time) and also failed to save Tala. Obi-Wan enters the hangar as Leia is still working on the hangar door. The captain reports to Darth Vader that the Grand Inquisitor has breached the door. He orders for her to stand down. Flashback, Anakin has forced Obi-Wan to a corner and says he should admit defeat. Obi-Wan gives Haja all of his equipment including lightsaber and then goes to surrender. He tells Roken, “There are other ways to fight.” Part V of Obi-Wan Kenobi is a kitchen sink episode with Anakin vs. Obi-Wan, Reva becoming Grand Inquisitor and her story, and a stunning ending!
