She-Hulk's "Whose Show is This?" is packed with disappointments and some truths are revealed! The last part of “Ribbit and Rip It” had Daredevil and She-Hulk thrown into a confrontation. Daredevil leaps off the rooftop of the car parking lot. Leap-Frog races away. She-Hulk is there and tosses a car at Daredevil. He is able to run, but She-Hulk uses the sonic slam that affects Daredevil with his super-sensitive hearing! She lifts him up and rips off his mask, it’s of course Matt Murdock. He explains to Just Jen that Leap-Frog kidnapped Luke Jacobson. Matt says he is Daredevil, but Jen doesn’t recognize the name. She added that his costume uses ketchup and mustard colors, very funny!, to which Matt says he will tell to Luke. Jen is worried and tells him not to say anything to Luke. Matt asks about the parking lot and Jen says she will leave a note! Leap-Frog’s headquarters, a two story building, with Lily Pad glowing in billboard letters.
Eugene in his jungle lair tells Luke at a sewing machine that he wants bulletproof shields and poison darts. Luke is not impressed. Eugene asks his henchmen if the group to be called Leap Squad. Daredevil is with Jen looking into the window of the building’s roof. He has identified the location and number of henchmen explaining to Jen that he can hear heartbeats. Her heartbeat is running fast. Daredevil says he will take on ten goons for fifteen seconds, Jen thinks this will be a half hour!, and he leaps off the roof. Two goons are discussing Leap-Frog’s name for them, Tadpoles? When a billy club knocks one out. Three others have cross bows, a door opens, and a henchman is slammed against a wall! He takes them down, Leap-Frog sends reinforcements, but She-Hulk drops the ceiling on them, her catch phrase, “She-Hulk smash”, love it! She bursts through the wall of the Lily Pad lair, there is the arcade games; Frogger and LeapFrogger.
Daredevil takes on the “hench-goons” while She-Hulk walks up and rips the cables from Luke. She advises Eugene not to make his crimes more serious. Leap-Frog leaps out of the window and strikes the pavement. He is taken away as the police are on the scene. Luke makes an apology and She-Hulk asks if he will make her dress. Daredevil sits at the sign while Just Jen joins him. They both give each other thanks and Jen asks when he leaves for New York. They return to Jen’s apartment and then we see Daredevil’s costume and along the floor! In the morning, Daredevil casually takes the walk of shame past a neighbor. Jen walks to her living room wondering why the audience is still around. She wonders why the episode hasn’t ended when Nikki enters and mentions the guy outside realizing that he was with Jen. Again talking to the Fourth Wall, Jen says that the episode came to a “satisifying conclusion”, too funny! Nikki says that they have to get her ready for the gala. Jen remarks that this is the episode before the finale, the “big twist.”
She brings up a red Hulk, General Ross transformed into an angry, brutal Hulk in Hulk #1 (2008) and then asks “I’m getting fridged.” This is an important term, Women in Refrigerators, created by comics writer, Gail Simone, as a reaction to Green Lantern #54 (1994). The story was where a villain killed and stuffed the girlfriend of the Green Lantern Kyle Rayner into a refrigerator. Such violence doesn’t belong in superhero comics and especially against a woman. She-Hulk appears in her Luke Jacobson gown, her parents, Morris and Elaine, and Todd waves to her, not a coincedence or chance meeting. It is the Southern California Law Awards and the presenter gives Female Lawyer of the Year to Jen. Pug, Nikki, and Jen’s parents clap at her table. The presenter continues with other lawyers including Mallory Book.
Jen thanks her parents when the screen is hacked by Intelligensia with the icon of HulkKing. I think the organization is professional enough to cut any feed to the screen. HulkKing asks if the audience wants to know who is She-Hulk. Morris takes video on his phone. Then, Intelligensia breaks in with masks and show the matcher search, then we see the video of She-Hulk with Josh Miller. She-Hulk starts to become angry, Mallory warns her, but she smashes the screen which also leads to parts of the ceiling to fall! The attendees start to run as the red emergency lights flash. Holden is one of them. There are men in masks at the back. Again, security is so weak that anyone can wander into this ceremony? She breaks through a wall and roars while picking up the man. Damage Control agents are there, She-Hulk should throw him up to the moon before they react. Nikki calls out to Jen and she lets the guy go with Damage Control also not interested?
She-Hulk breathes while looking at the audience. Dramatic, but really bending the rules of logic. Now, the finale of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law season one!, the Marvel logo is disrupted. We get the music and opening of the 1977 Bill Bixby Incredible Hulk show! We get Jen in the chair with the gamma ray target. Nice touch people working on the series! They re:do the first episode, we see Bruce next to Jen and she says the classic line, “Don’t make me angry (turns to camera), you wouldn’t like me when I’m angry.” You see She-Hulk angry, roaring, but this is all Malia Arrayah, the on-set reference for She-Hulk almost like Lou Ferrigno. Then, we get Jen’s face split with Malia’s She-Hulk with the title, “The Savage She-Hulk.” This was the original title of the comic book series. Best nod to a classic series and comic book in the MCU and I love that Malia gets some full screen time! Thanks Jessica Gao!
Jen suddenly wakes in prison fatigues like Emil Blonsky, same place, she’s in the Supermax prison. Her vision is blurry and then Jen sees Mallory Book, Nikki, and Pug. Jen asks about Bruce and Pug says he left messages. Mallory wants to get started and Jen goes into tracking Intelligencia and holding them accountable. Jen’s counsel says Jen’s case is what they have to focus on. Jen blames Intelligencia, but Mallory says people saw her as an “out of control Hulk.” Mallory says they have a plea deal from the district attorney. Jen puts on the ankle inhibitor just like Emil, is he connected in this?, so she may need his help. Leaving the prison, Jen sees her parents, later she packs up all of her stuff at Goodman, Lieber, Kurtzberg & Holliway. Did she lose her license to practice law? Without a career, I think she may have to join the Avengers.
The news casters, Jovana Lara, John Gregory, and Rachel Brown, all from ABC, Gregory was in two previous episodes, Lara and Brown had another episode appearance. The headline is “The End of She-Hulk” with Gregory and Brown has a funny news story title, “Galagate.” The news crews are outside her house, Morris offers her to stay, but her mother says her room now has gym equipment. Jen’s house is now empty, reporters swarm, and they are backed off by Morris using a garden hose telling them to get off his lawn! Funny! Jen opens the door to her room with the Legally Blonde (2001) poster, love it, and she slumps on her bed. Nikki is visiting, Jen has a crime board trying to find the Intelligencia connections, and Nikki says one of the men will slip up. They need an investigator and a lawyer?, call Matt Murdock!
Jen wonders about the access to her computer, but doesn’t wonder about Josh Miller or others who had access to her room? Also, nothing about Todd? Elaine barges in and tries to show Nikki the video of her daughter twerking in her law school dorm. Nikki shows Jen the video of Dennis Bukowski on The Conversation. Alone and exhausted, Jen goes to her bed and talks through the Fourth Wall. She tries again to text her cousin, Smug Hulk and then tries Emil. Then, Jen decides to take up his offer to stay anytime. At the GLK & H office, Nikki takes the video sent by Elaine to upload, and then gets an invitation from the HulkKing. She accepts and then goes over to talk with Pug. Jen sees Dirk, the former Wrecker?, and he goes to ready a guest room. She is resting and reading Emil’s book, Deep Haikus, nothing like SNL’s Deep Thoughts by Jack Handey.
Nikki drives up with Pug for him to infiltrate Intelligencia. Pug is alone at the party, but Nikki has him get some intel. One of the loser members says there is not a He-Hulk, how about He-Man?, and also about Lady Thor. Pug gets his confidence and also the attention of Todd Phelps, not a surprise to me. Nikki coaches Pug really connecting with Todd. Pug asks Todd how he is part of the group and he says he created Intelligencia. I suspected there was more to him in episode four and then connected him to Intelligencia in the next episode; Todd had too much of an interest in She-Hulk, he was wealthy enough to fund it, and seemed to show at her work and every place. Having a good idea of the mastermind behind it all, did not spoil this series or episode for me, it could be a twist. She-Hulk's finale brings in many of the characters we've met in the show, the villain revealed, with all of the humor and nods to the comics and tv!
