Season one of Ahsoka has finished so what are the episodes to catch up on? The first one is easy, Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008), intended to be two episodes introducing the show, it was released to films so Dave Filoni has film experience! It introduced Ahsoka Tano whom some jaded Star Warriors said was annoying, but I thought her youthful energy contrasted with Anakin. She needed him to teach her, but didn't always want to listen to him. We can see how Padawans were necessary to become Jedi. The best part is Ashley Eckstein making her debut, Ahsoka is Ashley, from her many appearances. Eckstein has been in live action as Miss Cole with the comedy movie based on the show, Alice Upside Down (2007). She would be great to see in Ahsoka season two!
Then, we have Matt Lanter who still has played Anakin more than Hayden Christensen with one movie and seven seasons of Clone Wars. Lanter was in the superhero show, Jupiter’s Legacy, as Skyfox. We have also the talented James Arnold Taylor as Obi-Wan, he played the part more than Ewan McGregor even with the Obi Wan Kenobi series. It was enough to introduce Sabine, Ezra, and Thrawn in live action. Also the cameos of Clancy Brown as Ryder Azadi, Genevieve O’Reilly reprising her part as Mon Mothma, and Anthony Daneils’ C-3PO. So I hope there is room for important supporting roles for Eckstein, Lanter, and JAT. Clone Wars, ”A Test of Strength” (2012), LC-CW5/7 introduces Huyang, David Tennant, note he is a very different character, more an advisor when we first see him.
The Witches of Dathomir enter the Star Wars universe with “Nightsisters” (2011), an episode of the Clone Wars, LC-CW3/12. Asajj Ventress (Nika Futterman) tries to escape Count Dooku and finds refuge on Dathomir. Mother Talzin (Barbara Goodson) protects her. Dooku finally takes revenge in “Massacre” (2012), LC-CW4/19. Grievous and battle droids invade Dathomir. The Nightsisters attempt to hold them back, but Talzin resorts to call on Old Daka to revive the Army of the Dead. Grievous defeats Old Daka and the army collapses. Mother Talzin restores the mind of her son, Maul (Sam Witwer), who manages to escape. Witwer appeared in live action as Agent Liberty in Supergirl. She was eventually destroyed by Grievous in the comic book, Darth Maul - Son of Dathomir #4 (2014) by Jeremy Barlow and Juan Frigeri. This was based on an unfilmed episode, “Showdown on Dathomir” written by Aida Mashaka Croal and Matt Michnovetz.
The Ones arc, "Overlords", "Altar of Mortis", and "Ghosts of Mortis", LC-CW3/15-17, showed them in statue form in the Ahsoka finale. This arc debuted the Father, the Son, and the Daughter. Obi-Wan was the father of course, Anakin the son, and Ahsoka, the daughter. The Ones are aspects of the Force so I thought it was strange that they were only on Mortis. Lloyd Sherr voices The Father and he also starred in the action movie, Hotel Artemis (2018). The Son was also voiced by Sam Witwer. Adrienne Wilkinson voiced the Daughter, she also voiced Maris Brood in the game Force Unleashed (2008). The game starred Galen Marek, apprentice of Darth Vader voiced by Witwer. Wilkinson is known for playing Eve, the daughter of Xena Warrior Princess. She would be perfect for season 2!
Ahsoka’s arc had seemingly come to a close with “The Wrong Jedi” (2013), LC-CW5/20 which had finished Clone Wars until season six, The Lost Missions, on Netflix. A murder mystery at the Jedi Temple has Ahsoka as a suspect throwing her out of the Jedi Order! Anakin stood by Ahsoka’s side. Her journey from the Jedi Temple took a side trip with Martez sisters in season seven episodes in 2020, “Gone with a Trace” to “Together Again”, a long arc. More important is when Ahsoka last sees Anakin and Obi-Wan in “Old Friends Not Forgotten” (2020), LC-CW7/9. This leads to the Siege of Mandalore, a four part series. Captain Rex is promoted to commander by Anakin and the 332nd Company repainted their helmets in honor of Ahsoka! The siege also involved Bo Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff) and a final confrontation with Maul in “Phantom Apprentice.”
Still, “Shattered” covers Ahsoka during Order 66 and she is now on the run from the troopers and Rex who were loyal to her. Ahsoka’s fate is in the season seven finale, “Victory and Death.” It is of course a melancholy end for a great series with Darth Vader finding Ahsoka’s lightsaber. The continuation of Ahsoka’s story then goes into novel form with the book, Ahsoka (2016) by E.K. Johnston. The audio book is narrated by Eckstein. Now there is some confusion on whether the novel is canon since the Tales of the Jedi episode, "Resolve" (2022), FC-TJ1/6 appears to cover the same events. The answer is that they are both stories of what Filoni said of "Resolve" in an interview to nerdiest.com, "It's based on the same outline I gave publishing for the novel."
So both stories are true and in the official canon, "Resolve" takes precedence over exactly what happens. I'll give another example, Star Wars: Rebels executive producer, Greg Weisman, detailed how Kanan Jarrus survived Order 66. This was in the comic book limited series, Kanan: The Last Padawan (2015). We saw though part of the events in the Bad Batch premiere, "Aftermath" (2021), FC-BB1/1. On the planet Keller, Depa Billaba is killed betrayed by Captain Grey. This is all in the first two issues, the rest of the six issues are true until changed. The Bad Batch's part in Kanan's origin doesn't change facts like Keller and Captain Grey. All material published after Disney bought Lucasfilm are said to be canon so it is the same situation as the Ahsoka book. Only the specific events are in what I consider the official canon.
I think the details like the name of the planet, the names of the brother and sisters, and the Inquisitor, are never identified in the episode so the novel can clarify those details. "Resolve" has Senator Bail Organa seeing Ahsoka in the funeral of Padme Amidala. He gives her a comlink. Ahsoka takes the name Ashla and goes into hiding on the moon of Raada. Ahsoka works at a farming community and uses the Force to save the life of Mira Larte. Later, she thanks Ahsoka and calls her "Master Jedi." Her brother, Kaeden, overhears this and sends a message. The Sixth Brother destroys the settlement and is about to kill Kaeden when Ahsoka stops him with the Force. She manages to kill the Sixth Brother with his lightsaber. Ahsoka contacts Senator Organa to evacuate the Larte family and agrees to join the Rebellion. New facts of lightsabers are revealed along with Ahsoka’s story so I hope the meeting of Huyang and Ahsoka is covered by Johnston in a second novel!
