Ahsoka Primer: Star Wars: Rebels - Part Two!

Star Wars: Rebels begins with the tv movie, “Spark of Rebellion” (2014) which was later divided into two episodes, FC-SWR1-2. It introduced orphan, Ezra Bridger, fourteen years old. He was the same age as Ahsoka when she met Anakin. Ezra was voiced by Taylor Gray who has moved into live action with the mystery series, In the Vault. In the capital city of Lothal, Ezra senses another person, Kanan Jarrus (Freddie Prinze, Jr.) who is also Force sensitive. Kanan was formerly a Jedi Knight who escaped Order 66 which was covered in the comic book series by Greg Weisman, Kanan: The Last Padawan. Kanan is gathering the crew of the Ghost, called the Spectres, including Zeb Orrelios. Zeb is voiced by Steve Blum who plays Onyx in the Disney super series, Villains of Valley ViewNext, Kanan gives a signal to Sabine Wren, Tiya Sircar provides her voice. Sircar was in the murder mystery series, The Afterparty

Ezra watches their smuggling of Imperial crates and impresses them with his capture of one. They are saved by the Ghost piloted by Hera Syndulla. Vanessa Marshall was the voice actor for Hera and also starred in the sci fi comedy show, Miss 2059. Next to Hera is the always reliable and cynical, Chopper, who is voiced by Dave Filoni. The episode also introduced Agent Kallus (David Oyelowo) who worked in the Imperial Security Bureau. Oyelowo is in the Apple+ sci fi show, Silo as Sheriff Holston. It would be incredible if the award winning actor appeared in season two of Ahsoka or the Dave Filoni film. Would it be possible if the character of Agent Kallus showed up? “Path of the Jedi” (2015), FC-SWR1/10 had Ezra and Kanan discover the Jedi Temple on Lothal that was in Ezra’s dreams. They use the Force together to open the temple. Ezra faces the Trial of the Spirit like Luke in Dagobah cave. He sees the Grand Inquisitor kill his master, Kanan, and confronts his fear of being abandoned.

Then, he hears the voice of Yoda (Tom Kane) as his guide. He also speaks to Kanan whom he hasn’t been able to sense before. Kanan has to deal with his confidence taking an apprentice. Ezra finds himself in a chamber of lines very much like the World Between Worlds! Then, he gets a Kyber crystal to build his lightsaber! In the season one finale, “Fire Across the Galaxy” (2015), FC-SWR1/15, they discover their mysterious contact, Fulcrum, is Ahsoka! Also, Darth Vader arrives on Lothal. In season two, "Siege of Lothal Part 2", FC-SWR2/2, they are closing on Darth Vader's fighter, when he says, "The apprentice lives", Ahsoka cries out and faints! While at a Mining Guild asteroid base trying to get fuel, Ezra bonds with the purrgil in “The Call”, (2016), FC-SWR2/15. He finds that the star whales use the fuel, Clouzon-36, and helps them before the purrgil jump into hyperspace.

Second season’s finale, “Twilight of the Apprentice” (2016), FC-SWR2/21-22, has Ezra, Kanan, and Ahsoka on Malacor. They battle Maul (Sam Witwer) who blinds Kanan! and Ahsoka confronting Darth Vader, her former master Anakin!, she saves Ezra. Then, the Sith temple collapses! In season three, “The Holocrons of Fate” (2016), FC-SWR3/3, on Atollon, Ezra and Kanan encounter the ancient Force creature the Bendu. He was voiced by Tom Baker, known for playing the Fourth Doctor! Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen) enters the Galactic Civil War in the episode, “Hera’s Heroes” (2016), FC-SWR5. On Hera’s homeworld of Ryloth, her father, Cham Syndulla (Robin Atkin Downes), is leading the resistance against the Empire. Downes appeared as Captain Jackazh in The Orville episode, “Blood of Patriots” (2019). Cham first appeared in the “Liberty on Ryloth” (2009), LC-CW1/21.

Hera is on a mission to her occupied family home to recover the Kalikori, artwork that is her family’s legacy. Hera first encounters Thrawn who easily discovers her identity through the Kalikori. It takes the resourcefulness of Hera that leads to Thrawn’s defeat. Outside is a crashed Y-Wing which was where Hera rescued Chopper. In “Visions and Voices” (2016), FC-SWR3/11, Sabine and Kanan travel to Dathomir as Ezra is led by Maul. Sabine is able to get the Darksaber, symbol of rulership on Mandalore.  Sabine returns to Mandalore with the Darksaber in the two part “Heroes of Mandalore” (2017), FC-SWR4/1-2, in the final season of Star Wars: Rebels. Tiber Saxon (Tobias Menzies) is the Imperial governor of Mandalore. He enforces his rule with a weapon that was designed by Sabine called the Duchess in mockery of Bo-Katan’s sister, Satine. Tiber is defeated and Sabine hands the Darksaber to Bo-Katan.

“Wolves and a Door” (2018), FC-SWR4/12, is the episode that returns Ezra to the Jedi Temple. It is occupied by Imperial forces trying to break in. There is a temple mural that shows the Father, Son, and Daughter. Ezra unlocks the mural and inside the temple finds a Gateway. This leads to the next episode, “A World Between Worlds” (2018), FC-SWR4/13. He hears the voices of Jedi and follows a convor, a white bird, to a portal. Ezra sees there the moment when Ahsoka was facing Darth Vader on Malachor. Darth Vader is about to kill her, but Ezra saves her! When they recover, Ahsoka recognizes the convor whom she calls Morai, the convor is a representation of the Daughter. The finale of Star Wars: Rebels, “Family Reunion - And Farewell” has Agent Kallus joining Ryder Azadi (Clancy Brown), former governor of Lothal, against the Empire. Mon Mothma makes her speech calling for the galaxy to rebel against the Empire.
