The Outpost, “Kill the Rat, Kill the Kinj”, Review!

Talon is leading Blackbloods and humans to take on the United, humans corrupted by Yavalla’s zinj!  The trio of Garret, Zed, and Talon see a villager looking for Gwynn.  They realize they are zinjed.  The men say they should kill all of them.  Yavalla speaks through the village woman that she wants her daughter and Janzo.  Talon wants to spare them and they ride back to the Outpost.  Talon orders a lockdown of the Outpost to stop the United in what she calls a new plague, um, shades of the real world here.  She tells Janzo to figure out a way to detect the zinjed.  Wren suspects that rats are spies.  In the lab, she watches as caged rats pass on the zinj.  Munt looks at a painting of his mother.  Warlita, Gwynn’s handmaiden, walks up to Munt, smiling.  He offers her a job at the tavern and then brings up a bar maid outfit for her.  Janzo asks Munt to capture rats and takes Warlita.

Talon meets with a village woman and accepts her and then encounters another with a zinj.  He moves to take a small girl and Talon kills him with a knife.  Talon takes the girl with no family.  On the outskirts of the wall, Munt has a ratcatcher net and goes hunting for rats as Warlita with a rat cage sees a severed hand.  Garret checks on the hand which he says comes from a female with Talon.  She says that the symbol on the wall was at her village, but she doesn’t know what it means.  Garret tracks the movements so Talon puts him in charge of the investigation.  He has Munt take the hand to Janzo.  Another mystery!  This show constantly has twists.  Munt brings up his father, Marshal Whythers, the two parents from the beginning of the show still have impact!  Garret killed him under the influence of the Three.

Wren and Janzo are studying the rats, and she kisses Janzo thinking that her mother is watching, and they find out that the zinj pass on twice a day.  Munt drops off the hand.  They calculate that at that rate it would take over the entire Outpost.  Wren comes up a window to separate the rats.  Janzo explains and has the rat in a portable cage, Talon carries it to check on the arrivals and finds a woman, she tries to infect a girl so Talon cuts off her hand and kills her!  The others are not too disturbed by the act.  Walita is working as a bar maid with Munt looking after her.  Garret shows Janzo the symbol and also Wren. He asks Janzo about the hand and he says there was blue dye on the hand.  Later, he checks the refugees looking for blue dye with Talon.  Night, Walita leaves the tavern, and is taken by cult members in masks!

At the lab, Janzo and Wren show Talon a dead woman, they try to show how the zinj dissolves after death.  Talon wants them to figure out how to remove a zinj from a living host.  Day, Munt finds Walita’s fallen pendant, and shows it to Garret working on the investigation.  He gets a report of a body and they find another dead woman with a bloody symbol on her.  It is the same place as the last body and Garret is upset that Whythers would have known to put a guard there.  Talon and Garret realize that the woman was fed to a Lu-Qiri by some with a “cracked heel.”  Zed is sulking at a balcony and Talon tells him about the Lu-Qiri.  He mentions that Zabba has gone masterless without Yobahn.  She is going to hunt it.  He takes her to see Orin, the Blackfist with a ring to summon the Locuri, he knocks him down.  The drunk Orin admits that he sold the ring.

Garret searches the marketplace with Munt.  He finds a woman in blue dress, he speaks in her language, but she doesn’t know the person.  Warlita wakes up tied up to a altar, the cult member cuts her free.  Talon is tracking the Locuri in the forest with Zed.  They hear the roaring of Xaba and Talon faces her.  The Locuri knocks them down, it chokes Talon, she defies it.  Xaba runs away.  Talon says she will treat it with kindness.  In the marketplace, Garret finds the blue dye vat, and then a door covered with the dye.  Munt forces it open, but the room is empty with the altar.  They find her robe.  Night, Talon carries a torch hunting the Locuri, it appears!  Warlita gagged is taken to the wall by the cult members who call the Lu-Qiri, Great Horned One.

They see the Locuri which frees Warlita from the chains and turns on the cult members.  Talon runs up and spares them!  Warlita hugs Munt.  Garret checks on Talon who says the Lu-Qiri bonded with her.  Talon realizes that Walita has fallen in love with Munt and they kiss.  A rider has reached the Capital and infects him with the zinj.  At the tavern, Munt sees Warlita in the Mistress’ dress and he is stunned.  Janzo has news for Talon and Garret.  Wren and Janzo show them a dead rat that was healthy with the zinj.  Janzo says it would take twenty days.  Gwynn will die!  This episode is impressive in dealing with the real world, filming was also under quarantine, in a fantasy sense.  Also bringing up a secret cult, the threat of a demon, who later allies with Talon.  Just like the Plaguelings, a threat that infects countless people, and now Gwynn!

Five Zinjes out of Five!
