Superman & Lois, “Haywire”, Review!

Last episode, Lois’ investigation into Morgan Edge led to a motel with a superhuman who was a match for Superman!  We flashback to Saskatchewan, Canada, six years ago, Humvees race under fire by what looks like meteors.  A commander, Morgan Edge, has his soldier suddenly stop the Humvees.  Edge sees in a crater, a red crystal, he says “and now the resurrection begins.”  If this is Red Kryptonite, then it has strange effects on a Kryptonian.  It first appeared in Adventure Comics #255 (1958).  This shifts to his face watching a Smallville football game in the rain.  Kyle Hutchinson is excited about Edge’s work proposal.  Edge eyes Lana coaching the cheerleaders.   He wants Lana to join them in dinner and they walk away.  Still, they are seen by Lois Lane and Chrissie Beppo.  They are joined by Lois father, General Sam Lane, he sees Clark helping out on the field.  Side note: Chrissie's last name is unusual, Beppo is the name of the Super-Monkey, so it must be a fun reference, Beppo was introduced in Superboy #76 (1959).

The coach sends out Jordan reassured by his father.  Sarah is also watching from the stands.  Jordan plows through players knocking down the football takes it up to score a touchdown.  Clark puts his arm around Jonathan.  Later, at the house, Sam is angry at Jordan on the football team.  He is worried about Jordan having powers.  Sam tells Clark that the military is afraid of Superman.  General Lane says without Superman in Metropolis has made it dangerous with Intergang.  They are transporting prisoners including Thaddeus Killgrave.  He is a super villain introduced in Superman #19 (1988).  Clark refuses to escort them and says he doesn’t work for the military.  Sam offers to stay at the house.  At the diner, Jordan is cheered on by his teammates, Jonathan tells Sarah that he doesn’t like football.  Taj  “Tag” Harris (Wern Lee) is between them mulling over his broken arm from the bonfire explosion caused by Jordan’s heat vision.  He almost gets into a fight with a player angry at his lack of money.

At the dinner, Edge talks with Lana, he says her return to Smallville has lowered her potential, not nice.  Chrissie looks at the latest edition of the Smallville Gazette.  She tells Lois that it is a good story.  They are interrupted by Leslie Larr (Stacey Farber) serving them papers.  She is the mysterious woman who is connected to Morgan Edge.  Chrissie has to hold off the story.  Tag returns home, looks at his football trophy, and then tries to cut off his cast.  His arm suddenly shudders at super speed!  This reminds me of Smallville with other characters dealing with super powers.  The next day, Clark practices football with his sons and uses his super speed.  Jonathan feels that he is benched.  Lois sees Clark and wants his involvement with the story.  She is headed to the mines to counter Edge.  Kyle enjoys that Lois’ story was cut from the newspaper.  Lana sides with Lois and wonders why Kyle didn’t watch over her with the Edge dinner conversation.  She walks away.

Lois drives the truck to the Shuster Mines and meets with Morgan Edge.  Of course Joe Shuster is the co-creator of Superman.  It may be that the mines contain the meteor fragments.  She doesn’t like his “fake” British accent, funny.  Lois threatens to reveal her information, even sued, it would be known through discovery.  Edge wants her to back down.  The coach plays the game film, he says it could have been Harris who made the winning play.  General Lane opens his laptop to check on the location of Killgrave.  The prisoner (Brendan Fletcher) is bearded with glasses in a strait jacket.  Fletcher was previously Stanley Dover, a serial killer, in Arrow.  He spits out something synethic he made at the prison and counts down!  At the restrooms, Jonathan goes to check on Tag, he is in the stall with his arm moving at super speed.  The cast shatters.  Clark hears something.

General Lane sees the attack on the transport.  He activates the Superman signal and informs Clark that Intergang has attacked the transport.  Gunmen are shooting the soldiers in smoke and one cuts Thaddeus’ jacket off.  At the restroom, Tag has to explain he took off his cast to Jonathan and Clark.  He hears the escape of Thaddeus and tells Jonathan that he has to leave.  Thaddeus breathes on a drone that flies up.  Superman flies to a Metropolis street.  He sees the drone with a warning by Thaddeus.  Superman is listening to a throbbing noise and searches the streets by the sky.  General Lane is about to leave the house and says to the boys that their father is special.  He shouldn’t be distracted by them.  At the Smallville Community Center, Kyle wants support for Edge and the mines.  Chrissie and Lois watch the meeting.  Lois is trying to leave a message to Clark and eyes Edge.

She runs into Lana.  All citizens raise their hands for opening the mines except Chrissie.  Lois and Lana don’t join her?  Clark apologizes for missing the meeting.  She is angry, but knows that he was handling something important.  Lois says she feels left out and goes to Lana’s girl’s night out.  This seems to shift the show to Sueprman and Lois.  At a party, Sarah brings in Jordan and Jonathan who greets Tag.  Superman joins General Lane at his office.  At a bar, Lois tells Lana about controlling men, Lana says that Kyle respects Lois for speaking her mind.  Lana notes that when Clark came back from Metropolis, she noted that he was more confident, because of Lois.  At the party, Sarah talks with Jordan at a fireplace, there really isn’t a relationship build until this scene.  He says he is happy now on the football team.  The boys have to deal with their Smallville Tag problem while Superman has take on the threat of Killgrave.  There is a mystery to what happens to Tag with a "special school", DC has the X-Men?  Also, a good moment with Lois against her father.  This episode of Superman and Lois lapses into the standard CW superhero show.
