Superman & Lois, “The Perks of Not Being a Wallflower”, Review!

The title of the episode of course refers to the 1999 novel by Stephen Chbosky who later wrote and directed his adaptation into a 2012 drama.  It looks like Lois is busy painting a new all, she shows Jonathan a shade of paint, and they get into a paint fight.  Clark hears a disaster at the Pingtang Bridge, Guizhou, China.  The support lines are snapping off and the bridge is starting to fall apart, Superman flies and holds up the bridge over a boatman, amazing!  At teh Kent Farm, Jonathan is stunned that his father can hear every sound on Earth.  The boys joke about nudity and other things not be known to them yet.  Clark tells Jonathan and Jordan to keep his identity and their powers a secret.  Lana and Kyle are in the car waiting for Sarah, she enters the car after  having an appointment with Dr. Lawrence, but she doesn’t want to talk about it.

At Smallville High, Jordan walks with Sarah, she walks off after seeing friends.  Clark lifts up a tractor to see an oil leak.  I still like the casual use of super powers.  He hears the sounds around the world.  Jordan is knocked around by Sarah’s boyfriend.  Clark listens in on the bullying with Jonathan trying to cut in.  Jonathan tries to warn Jordan when his eyes flare red.  Clark interrupts everyone.  Jordan is upset that he was listening in.  Clark drives his sons back and they are both upset at him.  The sons slam the house door behind them.  Um, Jordan doesn’t realize that he was going out of control until the arrival of his father, embarrasing yes, but a dangerous situation.  Night, at the Kent house, Clark is having wine with Lois.  She says the townspeople are not taking to her about the mortgages.  Lois brings up when she caught him listening in on her.  She says to make them the same promise that he gave to her.  In the morning, the boys see their father who apologizes and says he will not listen in on them anymore.

Chrissie talks to Lois at the Smallville Gazette, a woman, Sarah Powell (Jill Teed), mentions New Carthage.  She wants Morgan Edge and shows them a missing flyer of her son, Derek Powell.  He worked at the mines and was given an “opportunity” by Edge.  Mrs. Powell plays a mysterious message from her son.  From his truck, Kyle takes photos of them.  Jordan sees at the stairs Sarah breaking up with her boyfriend, Sean, Jordan is knocked down by a bully.  At cheerleader practice, Lana is worried at Sarah’s performance and she quits!  At football practice, it is raining, Jonathan is joined by Jordan in uniform.  His brother promises to be careful with his powers, but going to show the bullies who they can push around.  The coach sends Jordan out to warm up.  Later, he knocks down the bullies, don’t mess with a son of Kal-El!  Oh the agony!  Jonathan is happy for his brother.  The coach is angry at Jonathan for keeping his brother from him and has him run laps.   At a diner, Sarah wonders at Jordan’s football skills, she calls the brothers “unusual.”

Lana walks up to them.  Sarah doesn’t want her mother “hover” over her and says she doesn’t want to kill herself, some darkness here, I think Sarah is starting to be a standout character.  She brings up the family’s problems.  Lana demands that Sarah leave with her.  Clark enters as Lana walks off with Sarah.  Jordan keeps his role from his father. Night, Lois brings up the lead with Mrs. Powell, Chrissie says she was drinking and reserached Derek.  It seems like Chrissie with her smalltown journalism would follow Lois, whom she idolizes, and her journalistic sense.  They are interrupted by an explosion!  Outside is Lois’ station wagon on fire!   Later, firefighters including Kyle put out the fire.  Jordan is playing video games and his controller is snatched away by his brother.  Jonathan is upset that Jordan is taking away football from him.  He brings up that he will be eventually be found out by their father.  Lois confides to Clark she may have made a mistake accusing Edge.  Clark says that she should keep investigating.  He has given her flowers.

Morning, Clark presents Lana with the paperwork as she exits the bank, she admits the problem with her family.  Lana brings up that Jordan is the star football palyer.  At practice, Sean calls out Jordan, he is plowed backwards by him!  Jordan apologizes and lifts up Sean.  Then, he sees his father, the secret is out.  Night, Clark is angry at Jordan, he admits that taking him to the Fortress this early was a mistake.  Jordan says he doesn’t want his father around and is sent upstairs.  Then, he sends up Jonathan.  Clark is crushing metal outside, Lois says Jordan didn’t mean his words.  She is going to New Carthage to check on three missing workers.  Jonathan checks on his brother playing video games.  He gets a call which Jonathan sees and walks down to the kitchen to apologize to his father.  Jonathan says that football might be good for Jordan making friends.  I like Jonathan defending his brother, losing his speciality, brothers.  Lois’ investigation has some complication.  Lana has a moment with her mother that is some of the finest in any superhero show.  Excellent work, Inde Navarrette and Emmanuelle Chriqui!  We are having some mystery with more than one super powered threat!
