Strolling Through The (Theme) Park One Day: Avengers Campus!

The trip to DCA featured the WEB SLINGERS attraction, but now we are going to cover the entire park!  A consideration, it is Fall, but the temperature was sweltering about 92 F.  Light clothes, hat, sunscreen, a portable misting fan, nothing stopped the sunrays beating down on everyone.  It should be cooler some time.  The park design gives little shade, tall buildings, trees, sun shades or fans, to give guests some cover from the sun.  I kinda miss Bug’s Land because it had a splash area, shade, and cool trees.  Avengers Campus has some tall buildings, but not much shade, testing guests to see if they are tough enough to fight heatstroke?  Let's go over the costs of a day at Disney.  The ticket for DCA was $159, I bought a Dasani bottle, $4.30, later a meal at Paradise Garden Grill for the festival, a burrito, $12.49 (good, not fantastic), and a tea, $3.49, almost forgot, $20, 4 tokens for Games of Pixar Pier, I also picked up a Disney pin for Encanto, $17.23, and at the end of the day a Sprite, $4.30.  Total, $220.81, affordable?  The square at the end of Buena Vista Street has character meet and greets and the Christmas tree is on the left by Carthay Circle.  In the morning, there was Minnie, Mickey, and Snow White.  Later, there was Officer Blue and Molly, part of the Buena Vista Street Messenger Service.

Next to the waterfall is Avengers Campus, the other entrance is by Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission BREAKOUT!, it has a circular pattern with an Arclight Reactor in the center.  On the right side is Avengers Campus with the A, Avengers logo.  In the past Imagineering had “weenies” like Sleeping Beauty’s Castle, the EPCOT ball, or the Tree of Life at Animal Kingdom that would invite guests and also serve as a focal point so you knew where things were located.  There is none at Avengers Campus.  An easy one would be the globe at Stark Expo in Captain America: The First Avenger (2011), but I don’t think the Imagineers are interested in following the old Disney ways or MCU landmarks.  To the left side is the Spider-Man meet and greet, I think there is some shade there for guests, and then there is a the Amazing Spider-Man! stunt show, I saw the crane.  Still, I didn’t know where was the queue, poor signage, you have to ask cast members for directions.  I think there is the red WEB building and the show is there, but I don’t know where guests see it.

There is the store across from the WEB SLINGERS ride, WEB Suppliers, where you can buy the remote control Spider-Bots, spider light goggles, and the WEB shooters.  I’m guessing, I didn’t go into the store.  Next to it is the Ancient Sanctum, in the center is the Orb of Cagliostro, a glowing, polyhedral cube.  I think there is a show featuring Doctor Strange, but I entered the campus later in the evening when all of the shows and characters were gone.  Right at the edge of the sanctum is the Shawarma Palace which features the New York’s Tastiest shawarma wrap and the Impossible Victory Falafel.   Continuing on is the Warriors of Wakanda: The Disciplines of the Dora Milaje, I would have really liked to have seen that show, with Black Panther on the top level of Avengers Headquarters with the Quinjet.  Next to WEB SLINGERS is the Campus Supply Pod which has clothes and other “supplies.” Finally, there is the squat building of the Pym Test Kitchen with the 453 gram Quantum Pretzel, Not so Little Chicken Sandwich, and Subatomic Chicken Sandwich.  The area ends with the Guardians of the Galaxy tower.

There are meet and greets for the characters from the Falcon and the Winter Soldier down the street from Guardians.  I did see the Loki character (costume from the Disney+ show though I saw his Asgardian armor) on the campus, but Thor walked around Summer of Heroes.  There seemed to be an Eternals preview at the former Muppet Vision theater.  I’ve read that the Eternals, Sersi, Kingo, and Phastos, meet and greet is at the Ancient Sanctum.  They leave at 2 p.m.  I see pics of the Sam Wilson Captain America and also the Steve Rogers version, kinda confusing about the “time period” Avengers Campus is set in.  Also, Black Widow in her white movie uniform.  Avengers Campus assessement, there is a wide area, but honestly, even with little shopping, eating, or meeting characters, the 2017 Summer of Heroes was more of an event.  It had the one thing missing from Avengers Campus, comic books!, I don’t know if there are any at the stores.  WEB of Spider-man, the limited series came out.  What about a comic book about Avengers Campus?  There also was a stage show, Avengers Training Initiative, featuring young volunteers trained by Black Widow and Hawkeye.  Now, Mickey in Captain America gear and Minnie with Spider-Man pink shirt are there for pics on that stage.

At the Paradise Garden Grill, there were meet and greets for Goofy in a mariachi outfit! and also Mirabel from Encanto, I didn’t get a pic of her, but she walked past several times when I was queuing up for food.  There was also the live performance of the Holiday Concert featuring The Suffragettes.  Outside of the restaurant is the parade, ¡Viva Navidad! Street Party.  There is the float with the Three Caballeros; Panchito Pistoles, the rooster who is from Mexico, José Carioca, the green parrot from Brazil, and Donald Duck!  It features some fantastic dancers, music, and of course Mickey and Minnie taken in on bikes.  A very fun parade not to be missed!  Another performance that is must see is Mostly Kosher at the Sonoma Terrace, it is across the Pacific Wharf which some signs point to that location for their performance.  They sing about Hanukkah traditions and music around the world, some familiar, all fun!  On a float on Paradise Bay, across from The Little Mermaid attraction, at Paradise Gardens Park is the Blue13 Dance Company dancing some lively, Dwali dances!  There is some delicious food at the Festival of Holidays kiosks, entertainment, a new land with Avengers Campus, have fun at the Festival of Holidays!
